ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Representatives from the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) will this week travel to its sister utility company Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) in Jamaica to participate in the opening of its Centre of Excellence.

This was announced by the General Manager of BVIEC Dr Neil M Smith during the BVIEC Career Expo on Friday, November 29, 2024, at the BVIEC Long Bush Compound.

The JPS Centre of Excellence is a collaboration between the JPS Foundation and the Excelsior Community College (ECC).

Dr Smith said BVIEC will be sending its “technicians and engineers in the future for years to come” as the company prepares for the future.

Wave of the future approaching- Dr Smith

Dr Smith added that the wave of the future is coming like a line on the horizon.

“We are preparing ourselves to ride that wave. Resources to ride that wave in our future lie in our people here within the organisation now and those that want us to fulfil this mission for tomorrow. The future of the BVIEC and the BVI on a whole lies on its people and especially so our young people,” he explained.

Opportunities @ HLSCC

Dr Smith also said the BVIEC has a formal relationship with the H Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC).

“Interested school leavers and employees will be able to work together towards an Associate’s Degree or certification while working here at BVIEC,” he said.

Those who complete the programme with favourable evaluations from BVIEC, he continued, have “a guaranteed place here with us”.

The career expo attempted to showcase the skillsets of the BVIEC team that are essential for the operation of the BVIEC and the evolving nature of the traditional roles and skillsets that we currently have. It was held under the theme 'Driving Innovation and Excellence through a Dynamic and Inclusive Workforce'.
