SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI– Living up to its motto: 'We Persevere for Excellence', the faith-based learning institution, the BVI Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) School- Secondary Division, has recorded a 91.98% pass rate at the 2022 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examination, according to the school's principal, Mr Wade W. Tobin.

Mr Tobin, speaking briefly to Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) today, September 6, 2022, said the school will be analysing the results by tonight, September 6, 2022, for deeper insights into the school's performance, given the administration was taken up with orientation today.

While Mr Tobin lauded the success for 2022, he hinted the pass rate did not come as a surprise since the school has always been receiving high pass rates, ranging over 88% and above, in previous years.

When questioned on what attributed to the success of the private institution, Mr Tobin said: “I think the hard work and commitment of the teachers and the dedication of the students, as well as the parents. Everyone worked together to have a structured programme in place to ensure the students did very well.

“The integration of faith, God, and learning, that’s what made the difference,” he told VINO.

CXC given importance

Principal Tobin also said the institution, located in Sea Cows Bay, pushes CXC as important and would analyse how the institution competes not just locally, but regionally.

Meanwhile, VINO reached out to Principal of the Elmore School High School (ESHS) Ms Vanessa K. Garraway for information on the school’s performance; however, no response was received up to publication time.

As it relates to the VI’s overall CSEC statistics, Chief Education Officer, Ms Connie E. George has indicated that a statement will be prepared and released to the public as soon as the results are ratified.

CSEC results were officially released by the Barbados -based Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) last evening, Monday, September 5, 2022.

I’m not at all surprised by these results. At the BVI SDA School you get value for money and this is as a result of how well the school is structured. Committment, dedication, discipline, organization, respect, management and all the other basic attributes are the core values of this institution. Congratulations to Mr. Tobin, faculty, students and parents. Continue to persevere .

If they focus on respecting the correct day of rest…Sunday, then it would have been 100%. Another set of refined Jehovah Witnesses.

SDA school teachers are some of the hardest working teachers in the territory. The care and extra time they take in providing lessons, all on no extra cost, has helped these children in their various subjects. The school is focused on discipline, hard work, perseverance and God. No wonder they are a success every year! Congratulations SDA school!

When only the ‘cream of the crop’ is selected to do these exams 91% pass rate is expected.

That is sooo true. Only selected students get a chance to do the exams

@parent, cream of the crop? My child was no cream! He struggled because of learning challenges and the teachers never gave up on him. When your child wastes time in school you get upset when they're not recommended for subjects? Get vexed with your children for waiting your money.

Some will be vexed with my comment bit I don't care. Some commenting about selected students doing subjects but this happens in public school too. When your children go to school and waste your money you blame teachers and the school. Blame your child for not doing their duty to ensure being recommended for subjects. My child struggled academically through that school and the teachers worked with him so well. All schools make recommendations for CXC. Quit being emotional and congratulate the school on a job well done. Give praises where they're deserved! Blame your child for not doing their job.

While you are at it can we have the results for the 2021 CXC performance year. It has been a year and neither this institution nor the Ministry of Education divulged this information, which has been the Ministry's common practice. What is the big secret, please work on this too.

@we are selective, the results last year was good as well. Unfortunately, because they are private school, the government does not usually highlight them. There is nothing selective. Talk to your government and tell them to stop being selective with schools.

Every student at the school gets a chance to write at least five subjects. Even the students who were struggling, and I mean real struggle, were able to pull off subjects, some even getting grades ones and twos. Allyuh need to stop this. Whatever happens in the school and any school benefit the territory and people should be proud. It’s not just a plus for the school, but also the territory. One of the reasons for the success of the school is that they have been pushing CXC before most of the other secondary schools here.Celebrate the students nuh, they did the territory proud,no lie.

Here we go again!!! Every time a private school, particularly the Adventist school does extremely well in anything, some haters start hating. Are they not children of our community? The teachers work very hard for less pay than most, even holding online classes after school for no extra charge. Come on,people,be happy for the youths nah. I so happy CXC is marked overseas. Nuff said!!!

I read some of these results and I feel really sad. Why do we do this? I don’t have a child at this school, but my sister does, and I get information about what goes down. You guys remember when COVID and everyone was at home SDA was the first school to have their online platform running the very first week. They even had training session to teach other schools how to use these platforms. The students are exposed to cxc type testing in the school because I hear they use the same program that cxc use to test their students in high school. I am also a teacher y’all and during our last workshops, learning about computer technology,we we introduced to a program to use with our students, their teachers had already used that for a whole year before. Si give the people them props and stop the hate speeches. They did good.
