ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A new programme dubbed ‘BVI Moves’ will be launched by the Ministry of Health and Social Development on Saturday, September 14, 2024, during Caribbean Wellness Day celebrations.

The launch will take the form of a run/walk starting at the Ralph T. O’Neal Administration Complex from 6:00 a.m., which will take participants along Admin Drive onto Dual Carriage Way following the path down to ZBVI in Baugher’s Bay and back to the complex.

Other Caribbean Moves inspiration for BVI Moves- Hon Wheatley

According to Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9), " The initiative was born out of the remarkable success of Caribbean Moves in other countries and our experience from the successful BVI Run/Walk Program from 2015,” the minister said. He added, “The BVI Moves programme will be implemented using a three-pronged approach by establishing partnerships with communities, schools and workplaces.”

The Minister expressed excitement about the launch of the programme designed to improve the health and well-being of the people of the Virgin Islands community.

Public support needed

Hon Wheatley is also calling on members of the public to support BVI Moves to ensure its success.

He said while the mission is clear it cannot be achieved alone.

“We need the support of every individual, family, and community member across the BVI. We want to especially invite our private sector partners to join us and our community walking warriors to set an example as we revitalise movement in our community,” he encouraged.

BVI Moves is designed to promote regular physical activity, encourage healthy eating as the foundation for good health and raise awareness to reduce non communicable disease risk factors.

Caribbean Wellness Day 2024 is being celebrated under the theme ‘Power Through Collective Action’.

Why has this been scheduled to conflict with the timing of the 3rd race in the BVI 10k series of races?

In reference to the Topic Issue: "BVI MOVES" spear headed by the "BVI MOVES" to be launched by Ministry Of Health and Social Development. In my honest opinion What is expected to be launched coming next Saturday 14, 2024 should have been an extension of of a program that should have already been in practice least twenty four (24) years ago. Because it was done to the level of expectation base one political Leaders promised.

Physical exercises alone will not fix the large gap between good health and bedridden person s, sometimes due to lack of impaired medicine and genetic engineering and other insecticide foods intakes.
The issues that lead to good health cannot be overstated. The many water filled potholes in our traffic roads are they not breathing nest for for mosquitoes? The stinks of sewerage water that is running in our traffic roads daily are this a health Hazzard in all nine district of the BVI?

Much better talking and walking needed to be done, until then, the downward spiral continue unabated.

True unity is likened to strong chain with no weak link.

Genuine love for others over prevails over selfish love.

Good health for all very much depends on our nutrition intake, daily.

    Helping others show love.

Work you talk, not talk you walk.

    God is Love.

While they are running they need to cut the shurbs on the side of the road so someone need to set that up so the Government should not have to pay for that our fore fartherss use to do it without cost.
money destroys when not use effectively
The Goverment cannot pay for everything
