BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Commentator and Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has said the Territory is in a bad state and looks like a “hog pen”.

During his weekly show Honestly Speaking on ZBVI 780 AM, on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Pastor Cline said, “The BVI looks like a hog pen and that’s giving the hogs a bad name. We look good from the ocean, just don’t come on land.”

Why can’t the VI remain clean?

He questioned why the Virgin Islands (VI) cannot be kept clean, decent looking and manicured. “What is wrong with us?” he asked.

Pastor Cline added that the state of the VI should not be blamed on the recent rainfall and damages it caused stating that the issue was there before the recent bad weather. He said every resident of the VI has a responsibility to cleanliness

“Now of course, the government has its role, the Public Works and all the ancillary bodies have their role, but...how did we get to this?...Just across there by the Pier Park, one of the finest developments in this country aesthetically and structurally and right outside the Pier Park we new swimming pools, oceans of water,” he continued.

A longstanding problem

Pastor Cline also noted that this issue of cleanliness in the VI or the lack of it has been an issue for quite some time.

“This is before a VIP government, this is before a NDP government, this is before 2024, this is before 2023, this is before 2019, this is before 2012, this is before 2007. This has become us, that’s the problem?”

He advised that one solution should be what he has consistently shared which is the need for a “singleness of purpose and unity” among the leaders of the VI.

He should know. BTW There is a “singleness of purpose and unity” among the leaders of the VI. It’s called cronyism and corruption. Been going on for decades.

Solution! More money is needed for the district with self-revenue generation guided by a district council. Give the district the ability to help themself.

In reference to the Topic Issue, Fake pastor, Claude Skelton Cline, your have spoken badly about the BVI. You should not forget that your birth place is the BVI, and you currently live and profit financially here. How come you so dare to call down your country of birth as looked like a Hog's pen? Is it just because you are not getting your way as you prefer? If the BVI looked to you like Hog's pen, why don't you hurry up and go to the UK? There is a Palace there.

Remember this so-called smart man, when a baby doo doo the parents, almost all, deposed the doo doo, not the child. Do what you can to help clean up the BVI many mess, not try hindering tourist and other from visiting our shores.
In spite of you bad mouthing us as looked like a Hog's pen, learn to think, before you run you mouth.
True, the BVI at this time is not politically goodly managed, but where is you common sense, in you tongue only?

Stop talking foolishness man. Begin doing so as of now.

There’s nothing that can be done about this issue. It is local culture to live like this and expect everyone else to clean up after themselves. The local community cannot bear to throw something away thinking they may need it one day so we have properties full of garbage. This has been going on for decades and is part of the BVI and caribbean culture.

If there is one area that fits Skelton-Clines description its Hodges Creek. With every move they make the situation gets worse. Seems as though they were trying to install drainage on the wrong side of the road even though they were warned and hit the sewerage pipes now works are at a standstill as they go back to the drawing board to figure out the next move meanwhile the motoring public must endure the biggest piece of bull..it for 2024. I must agree that common sense is not so common.

Vehicles and excessive Bush which over hangs the roads and cause problems to pedestrian and vehicular traffic failing to do so ther owners will be fine a find not exceeding $10.000 or 6months in jail or both or the cost to maintain will be added to the land tax

Mr. Skelton-Cline as a leader why not organize a group of residents within your community to do something about it? Years ago the CGB community did their own cleanups bush cutting etc. How hard can it be to do that once again? You drive through the village every day to get to your mansion on the hill. What thoughts go through your mind as you do? Do you say at least I don’t live down here, up by me clean? The taxi and tour operators load up their vehicles and bus the tourists straight from the pier to the beach so why not ensure they have a clean space once they get there? Do something about it instead of complaining and flip flopping your support of the government to suit your constantly changing moods.

It is pure lessness. The leadership is so poor and ineffective and may I say less that they cannot keep the the territory clean and aesthetically pleasing. Rass mon. Third Form students can organize, plan, etc to get outcomes., Is the leadership forgetting that the BVI is in the service industry and appearance matters. If government cannot get public works , and solid waste to do basic things, what are our expectations of getting big things done. The government behave as a dog chasing a car and caught it but nothing happens. Well, the sad thing is government action, inaction, poor services, etc affects lives. Do, ^&% something or get off the %$# pot. I’m a frequency reader of the eNews sites and see many bloggers talking about facilities services. It seems as if all politcians work to do is get two terms so they can collect from the Greedy Bill. We need to send their @$$#$ to the curb if they they just taking up space.
