BVI Humane Society receives over $2K from 'Gumption'
Mr Manog Bissoondutt aka 'Vijay', Shelter Manager of the BVI Humane Society received the $2,548.00 donation.
Speaking with Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) today, Tuesday, February 3, 2025, Mr Bissoondutt said Mr Allington O. Creque aka 'Gumption' has always been a “big supporter” of the humane society.
“It’s not the first time he has made a donation, he has done it before…Whenever we have a fundraising event or something, anything, he always contributes you know by giving us prizes on behalf of his business,” he said.
New facility being constructed
The society is currently in the construction phase of a new facility at Josiah's Bay and the funds from 'Gumption’ will go towards that.
“We’re happy as a company to support the ongoing project,” Mr Creque said in a social media post announcing the donation.
According to Mr Bissoondutt, the new facility will be about three times the size of its current shelter in Johnson's Ghut.
“The animals are going to be much happier,” he said, explaining that though the new shelter will be bigger, they will keep the numbers at capacity.
“It’s not because it’s bigger, I’m going to try to house more animals…but the animals will be much more healthier and happier,” he told VINO.
The construction is currently in its final stages where the septic tank is being constructed and landscaping is being done.
Once everything goes according to plan, the new shelter should be completed by May or June 2025.
“We are very optimistic,” he said.
All donations are welcomed- Mr Bissoonductt
Mr Bissoonductt added, “Sometimes people think that we only need cash money. No, a donation could be any[thing].”
He said once construction is completed they will need furniture and other key materials.
“A donation could be a fridge, a desk, a chair, you know, a gallon of Clorox,” he added.

Matthew 6
1"Be careful not to do your `acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
