HONG KONG, China- Women in Need BVI (WINBVI) and the BVI Hong Kong Office have entered into a partnership for a scholarship programme.

The two organisations met recently in Hong Kong, China, where Ms Siobhan Flax, the Deputy Director of the BVI Representative Office, made the announcement on April 7, 2025.

“With the BVI Asia Abroad Scholarship Programme, we offer a number of scholarships throughout Asia to qualified BVIslanders, and we are very happy to offer one scholarship…for a qualified member of the WINBVI organisation.”

Ms Flax said the BVI Hong Kong Office is pleased to support WINBVI and its membership in this way, as it is just one aspect of their collaboration.

Scholarships, she revealed, will be for studies at the bachelor's or master's level in a wide range of subject areas, including medicine, finance and tourism.

“I am very, very pleased as a woman myself, hearing about the work of the organisation to add to your portfolio in this way,” Ms Flax added.

‘We did not expect this’- WINBVI Director

Director of WINBVI Mrs Alicia Green said she and her team came to Hong Kong on a mission but did not expect this scholarship announcement.

“So, I have to say that we are elated to add this to our portfolio… this is definitely empowerment for women through education and children, and we are pleased and happy to have this partnership launched here.”

WINBVI, she explained, offers a holistic approach to the women who come through in areas such as healing or empowerment, among others.

“The work that WINBVI does, we do not take it lightly and our parenting programme, we do have women involved who aspire to have higher education, and I think this is an avenue we can use to channel them in this direction.”
