BVI Cable TV celebrates digital launch
General Manager and Vice-President of BVI Cable TV, Ms Luann Hodge said that for the customers of BVI Cable, this meant better pictures, more channels and better service. She thanked the staff, and corporate team for their work during the period.
The company has so far launched six (6) channels already and are expecting to launch and additional twenty-two in April, 2013.
The General Manager explained that the process was about “launching from our analog cable system that we had in the past to now, a digital cable system.” Ms Hodge felt the new developments opened up much more options than those that would have been available to the company and its customers in the future.
CEO of Innovative, Seth Davis, said that in addition to cable TV services there are also audio services. The company, he noted, had hundreds of audio channels that were also available.
According to the CEO, the company was also awaiting the TRC’s competitive study to determine what steps should be made into the internet arena and to what capacity this will be done.
“The system is built to be able to offer that,” said Mr Davis, “we just need to make sure that the groundwork is laid for being able to offer this…”
Concerns regarding the issue of groundwork came in the form of economics, the CEO suggested, “what we can acquire bandwidth for and to be able to sell it is important so that we can make a business out of it.”
He was hopeful that the service could be rolled out by the end of the calendar year and said tests should be conducted by then in various areas around the Territory assuming that the economics are feasible.
“We have to guage demand,” he said, “everybody assumes there is a demand but we have to understand price points and what the demand will be for the service.” Davis also thought it was a great opportunity to also enhance what is already being provided by providing a ‘two-way service’.
According to Davis “It’s a large change and a lot of moving parts… the public itself needs to swap out their boxes… both the legal and the illegal ones will stop working as of the end of this month.” He suggested that persons come in now to have their boxes changed and to avoid the rush.
Patrons were also treated to lunch during the launch.
