BVI Bayside Blazers reach final of ‘Battle of the Fittest’ in St Maarten

- defeat hosts Dutch St Maarten in 2 consecutive nights to reach final against Dominican Republic

PHILIPSBURG, St Maarten, WI- BVI Bayside Blazers are through to the final of the 6th annual ‘Battle of the Fittest’ Basketball Tournament in Philipsburg, St Maarten after beating hosts Dutch St Maarten for the second consecutive night.

The BVI boys had needled St Maarten 84-83 on July 18, 2019 to reach the semi-finals but came out with an 8-point margin of victory, 75-67, in the final four clash with the same opponents at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium last night, July 19, 2019.

Leading the scoring for BVI Bayside Blazers were Adrian D. Joseph (13 points), Killven M. Samuel (12 points), Deon J. Edwin (12 points, 7 assists) and Kleon C. Penn (7 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks).

Top scoring for St Maarten was Dion Bute, who had a game high 15 points and 7 rebounds.

Another clash with DR tonight

BVI Bayside Blazers, the defending champions, come up against the Dominican Republic in the championship game tonight, July 20, 2019. The Dominican Republic reached the final with a 95-73 win over Aruba last night.

Coincidentally, the BVI Bayside Blazers’ only loss at the 2019 championship came at the hands of the Dominican Republic, 81-98, on July 15, 2019.

If there was ever a better time to avenge that defeat, it is tonight in the championship clash at 9:00pm.

At 7:00pm St Maarten will take on Aruba for third place.
