NAZARETH, St Thomas, USVI- The BVI Barracudas Swim Team made a good showing at the 2024 Virgin Islands Swimming Federation Short Course Championship (VISF SC) in the US Virgin Islands (USVI) this past weekend.

The team was invited to the annual event where the two member clubs representing St Thomas and St Croix compete for a Championship trophy.

47 individual medals & three 2nd place relay finishes

The BVI Barracudas Swim Team comprised 15 swimmers led by Coach Rebecca Nockolds.

During the two days of competition, November 2 and 3, 2024, the team was able to secure forty-seven individual medals and three second-place relay finishes, along with seven more B time standards in their races.

“We are incredibly proud of all 15 of the BVI Barracudas Team that competed this year! The team achieved 55 personal best times and more than doubled the 20 medals achieved last year in 2023 with 47 top 3 finishes achieved this year in 2024!” the team said in a Facebook post.

The team was also challenged to try new events and skills including pullouts from the 8 and under swimmers in breaststroke and “flawless” flip turns for four of the team’s 50-meter backstroke swimmers. This, according to the team leaders, is a huge feat for swimmers who do not have a proper pool or flags to practice with at home.

Leading up to the competition, the team was able to practise at Nanny Cay.
