BVI Airports Authority & LIAT 2020 in talks to service VI- BVIAA MD
The BVI Airports Authority, he told VINO on Thursday, August 15, 2024, is actively reviewing LIAT 2020’s formal application for a Foreign Operations Permit.
“This process involves careful consideration of all submitted documents by both the Authority and Air Safety Support International (ASSI) to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements,” he explained.

Menal also said the potential of LIAT 2020 flying into the Virgin Islands represents a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity and aligns with the Authority’s ongoing air service development goals.
“We remain committed to fostering improvements in our air transport infrastructure and look forward to the positive impact this collaboration will bring to the Territory and region,” he said.
LIAT 2020 had its inaugural flight from Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport to St Lucia on August 6, 2024. The new airline is a joint venture between the Antigua and Barbuda government and Nigerian Airlines' Air Peace.
The airline currently flies a limited schedule between Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and St Lucia.
LIAT 2020 officials have said more destinations will be added by September 2024 and are looking to expand to the Virgin Islands by the end of the first year of operations.
It was only on August 12, 2024, that Caribbean Airlines announced the launch of its new route to Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island in the Virgin Islands, commencing on October 14, 2024.
