ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Kougar’s located in Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park not only offers original Puma brands in footwear, clothing and accessories but a random chance of running into the Virgin Islands’ most successful athlete, World Athletics Championships silver medalist and Olympic finalist Kyron A. McMaster, who happens to be the owner of the store.

Kougar’s is the latest to be featured on Retail Therapy, a promotional programme by Tortola Pier Park Limited (TPPL) in collaboration with JTV Channel 55.

JTV’s Cathy O. Richards and Marketing Executive of Tortola Pier Park Limited (TPPL) Stephon D. Mactavious were given a tour of the store by Kyron’s sister Kadia K. Turnbull.

“This store means a lot to Kyron in the sense that Puma was one of the first international sports brands that recognised his talent and took him on as a pro athlete,” Kadia disclosed, adding that the relationship went a step further as the company connected with Kyron on a “deep and personal level.”

Since Hurricane Irma in 2017, Puma has also been sponsoring the sports kit of the national track and field athletes.

“That is what Puma means to us and that is why we predominantly showcase Puma brands in our store, because of that deep connection between Kyron and Puma,” Kadia said.

Kougar’s offers a range of footwear for as little as “tiny tots” to adults. Footwear such as sneakers, inclusive of unisex, for casual wear or sports, including running, basketball, rugby, and football, and slides.

One of the best sellers at Kougar’s, according to Kadia, is the Basketball Classics, especially the all-white.

The slides, according to Kadia, are especially popular with tourists.

Some of the footwear comes with matching colour clothing (including leggings), which is especially popular with the ladies.

Most of the footwear are made with Puma’s Soft Foam technology.

Additionally, Kougar’s also sell footballs, basketballs, and volleyballs, which tend to “go very fast.”

Puma clothing line

Just like their footwear, Kougar’s also has a variety of clothing ranging from size 12-18 months to adult sizes.

Some of the clothing for children even comes with child-friendly designs.

In abundance at Kougar’s is gym clothing, including sports bras for the slim and not-so-slim.

“When you buy athletic wear, whether male or female, especially from our store, know that it is a quality that is going to last,” Kadia said.

Men in particular can step into Kougar’s confident they can find something for them, including jerseys in a variety of colour, track pants, sweatpants, and causal short pants of different colours.

Back-to-school items

With school on the verge of reopening, parents can look forward to finding quality items for their children, including sneakers, socks, and bags.

“Every year we tend to try to organise our back-to-school shipment to come in around this time,” Kadia said, adding that even without that shipment there is still a large selection of items for parents to choose from.

Workout & recovery equipment

No doubt, Kougar’s can even be considered a sports store.

Additional items available are stretch bands for the athlete or fitness-conscious persons engaged in resistance workouts and stretching for increased mobility.

Then there are massage balls to loosen stiff muscles and release tension, grip gloves, skipping ropes, and sweatbands.

To top it off, Puma fragrance can also be found at Kougar’s.

The Kyron A. McMaster-owned Kougar’s is another way the son of the Virgin Islands soil is making himself and country proud.

He is based overseas but, just maybe, a trip to Kougar’s one day could result in a meeting with the 2-time Commonwealth Games and 2-time Diamond Leage 400M Hurdles champion, Kyron A. McMaster, himself and a chance for a photo and autograph.
