Business Watch: House of Luxury
House of Luxury is the latest to be featured on Retail Therapy, a promotional programme by Tortola Pier Park Limited (TPPL) in collaboration with JTV Channel 55.
Host of the show and Deputy CEO of Tortola Pier Park Limited (TPPL) Zoe J. Walcott said House of Luxury has been known as “three generations to trust” and that proprietor Sanjay Surtani has become somewhat of a “taxtolian, in that he gives so much of his time, so much of his company back to the BVI.”
The first thing one notices when entering House of Luxury, apart from the friendly staff ready to assist, is the distinct blocks for the different well-known brands, such as Pandora, Tudor, Mont Blanc, Chopard, Rado, Oris, Hearts On Fire, Fope, Gucci, Cartier, YSL, Swarovski and more.
‘I love the BVI’ bracelets!
The first stop for Walcott was at the Pandora block, where the first product introduced was a sterling silver bracelet charm with the words ‘I Love the BVI’. It is one of the many customised bracelets charms especially popular with travellers who visit House of Luxury.
It was also noted that Pandora products have a wide price range, starting at $35.00.
Customers can also personalise their jewellery. “We can personalise anybody’s gift for sure,” Walcott was assured by one of the salespersons.
Another product line advertised was ‘Timeless Pearls’, which is brand new this summer at House of Luxury.
Some of the jewellery featuring pearls of different sizes are sterling silver and 14-carat gold plated.
There is also themed jewellery, including Disney characters such as from the Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Mickey and Minnie and Donald Duck and Daffy Duck.
The Game of Thrones-themed jewellery was regarded as a “hit” with men.
Perfect Father’s Day gift ideas
With Father’s Day observed on Sunday, it was noted that a go-to for Father’s Day is Tudor watches.
Tudor watches have the DNA of Rolex but without the price, Walcott was told. Giving a bit of history, Walcott was told Rolex was founded in 1904 and Tudor in 1926 and that after World War I, with the absence of a middle class, there was a need for good time pieces but at a modest price.
Tudor watch prices start at $2400.00. The most expensive are solid gold watches for $19,000.00, which is half the price of its cousin, Rolex.
Other brands of time pieces at House of Luxury include Tissot, which is more of a sports watch. Considered an “entry-level” luxury watch, it has a price point of $475.00 and reaching $6000.00.
Mont Blanc
One of the brands to definitely consider if looking to purchase a gift for Father’s Day is Mont Blanc. Mont Blank products include leather items such as bags, wallets, card holders and belts. Other Mont Blanc items include cologne, watches, pens, and accessories.
Customers can get a high-quality Mont Blanc cologne at House of Luxury for just $95.00.
“It’s the number one men’s brand and it offers literally everything a man needs, from colognes, wedding instruments, watches, leather goods, everything that a man uses in day-to-day life, professionally and personally,” Ms Walcott was told.
One of the highlights of Mont Blanc is the Augmented Paper, which is a notepad that transfers analogue notes and scribbles to the digital domain.
‘Month of the Bride’
June being the Month of the Bride meant a visit to the wedding and engagement rings section. Apart from the ready-made ones, customers can also get their engagement rings customised, according to the size of the diamonds and price.
Customisation can take just an hour, depending on the task.
What was interesting was staff ‘Sunny’ disclosing that customers have bought diamonds from House of Luxury to celebrate their divorce.
It was more pleasing to hear; however, that most customers prefer round diamonds as a symbol of their "relationship having no ending.”
