ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Police are seeing a trend of multiple burglaries on single apartment buildings in Greenland, Old Plantation and in the Vanterpool Estate areas which suggest that a single burglar or team of burglars is perpetrating these acts.

According to a police press release, a heavy tool such as a crowbar was often used to pry open windows or doors and gain entry to homes especially during the day time.

Last week, two apartments in one building in Old Plantation were burglarized. In one case, the tenant came home in the afternoon to find an unknown male with his head covered standing in her living room. The man quickly ran through the back door and made his escape with $80 cash.

The perpetrator in this incident is described 5’10, slim built and light brown in complexion. He was at the time wearing a plaid pair of short pants, a white t-shirt and another white shirt to cover his face.

Items stolen in these burglaries are cellular phones, laptops, jewelry and cash. Perpetrators, however, are now taking the cable boxes. Three premises were entered this past week where only a cable box was taken. Police are working with BVI Cable TV to obtain registration numbers for these boxes in order to identify stolen boxes.

Persons are reminded to plan in advance to properly secure valuables. Homeowners are asked to inspect their premises and secure windows and doors, particularly those out of public view and more susceptible to break-ins. The installation of alarm systems and in cases of night-time burglaries, external lighting, is also encouraged.

Police believe large qualities of electronic items are being stored and/or transported off island and therefore are asking for any information that can assist in locating the property or identifying the perpetrators involved. Persons can call the confidential Crimestoppers hotline number at 800-TIPS (8477) or any officer within the RVIPF.
