Brockbank & Andersen; heading home
Although the final day of Garda Trentino Olympic Week, the second leg of the Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup, with the medal races being held, didn’t involve the BVI Pair (the top ten qualifying for each final), Brockbank and Andersen gained much experience and sailing time in some spectacular conditions before packing their bags to come home.
“That's a wrap for Garda, as well as Europe for this trip! We sailed 3 decent races yesterday to finish up 27th of the 43 boat fleet. Considering the loss of practice this last month we're happy with how things went and moving forward eager to improve”
Andersen and Brockbank had spent more time out of the water than in it ahead of the Regatta, due to Andersen’s foot injury, but as the pair commented
“Despite having missed almost a month or important training, we started the Trentino Olympic Week here in Lake Garda, Italy. Alec's foot is holding up, but times are a little tough as we've missed valuable time on the water. Sitting farther back in the pack than we would like, but looking to improve race by race.
Italian success in the acrobatic class was important for several reasons. The crew of Trentino Ruggiero Tita and Giacomo Cavalli distinguished themselves in a demanding Olympic Week by winning the medal race outright. The two young sailors fended off a fleet of opponents including champions in the class. It confirms that Italy is gaining strides in this class. Second were Tomasz Januszewski and Jacek Nowak of Poland and in third place Italians Stefano Cherin and Andrea Tesei.
