VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI- British Billionaire and [British] Virgin Islands Belonger Sir Richard CN Branson was reportedly injured while cycling on Virgin Gorda on Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Displaying a bruised elbow and a smile in a photograph he published on social media, Branson said he took quite a big tumble while cycling in Virgin Gorda “a little while ago!”

The owner of Necker Island and Mosquito Island in the [British] Virgin Islands stated: “I hit a pothole and crashed hard, resulting in another hematoma on my hip and a nasty cut elbow, but amazingly nothing broken.

“We were cycling with Alex Wilson, who fell after me, but thankfully he was ok as well,” Branson wrote alongside the photo of him and Mr Wilson, who was seen with spots of blood on his right face, right hand and on his white shirt.

“I’m counting myself very lucky, and thankful for keeping myself active and healthy. After all, the brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all!” Branson said.

Bad luck Branson?

It is not the first time that Mr Branson has been involved in an accident while cycling on Virgin Gorda. It was in August 2016 that a speed bump was his undoing.

Writing in a blog on the Virgin website, Branson said: "I was heading down a hill towards Leverick Bay when it suddenly got really dark and I managed to hit a ‘sleeping policeman’ hump in the road head on.

The entrepreneur said he was was cycling in the dark with his children, Holly and Sam, when he hit a bump in the road, causing him to be flung over his handlebars.

He also spoke about how his "life flashed before his eyes" in the accident and left him with a black eye and large cut on his face.

In February of that same year, Mr Branson was bitten on his hand by a stingray while in the Cayman Islands and he also had to get three stitches on his head after walking into a glass door of a jewellery store.

Cycling accident on Tortola in November 2021

And in November of 2021, Mr Branson reported on social media that he was involved in a cycling accident while participating in a multi-discipline challenge fundraising event dubbed Strive BVI on Tortola.

He said he was descending a hill and his cycle brakes failed; however, he had to crash into another cyclist since the alternatives were riding into an oncoming car or going off a cliff.

"We both fell off our bikes and our heads and bodies slammed into the concrete road. There is no question that wearing helmets saved our lives – not the first time that has been the case. We both lay flat out on the road as the rest of the team gathered around us. I stayed still, hoping I hadn’t broken my back or paralysed myself. Slowly, I moved my limbs and was relieved they responded. Thankfully, Felix was ok too. He said: “I've never had someone push me off the road and apologise in advance - it was very gentle and kind!” Mr Branson had blogged.

How come he always falling down in the same spot? This is the second time he did that with a different cycling buddy.
Maybe if the government would cutdown on all the tax breaks that they giving the millionaires & billionaires we would have some money to fix our roads,

Not sure what the sting ray and glass have to do with this article. No comments until I saw it looks like a scene from Halloween.

If he had broken his any vital part neck spine hip or died and have this be the cause of it in history books this government & territory would really be the embarrassment of the Caribbean. Not because we are the worst place or most unsafe but this & other short falls are unexpected for the BVI.

Interesting how "he", can roam, ride, and hang around freely, on our islands, while NO ONE can, on any of his, unless they've paid thousands nightly to stay there!

Perhaps, these falls may, be an omen: STAY, and ride on those islands you own!

It's a jungle out there Mr Branson. Glad you were not hurt. The BVI Government is an embarrassment but they have no shame. They will not be moved one ounce by this accident.

Yes,the (British) Virgin Islands (VI) government has the responsibility for a) designing,, b) constructing, c) maintaining and repairing, d) operating and e) funding public roads. It has demonstrated a subpar performance in managing the small VI road network. Nevertheless, Sir Richardson Branson, a Billionaire Virgin Islander who is enjoying life in the VI and assumingly wants the best for and wants to see the VI progress, may want to strongly consider contributing and sponsoring—funding—a project to redesign,,reconstruct, improve maintenance and repair the road network in VG or the VI proper. If he does not trust or feel uncomfortable with the capacity and capability of the current Public Works Department leadership and management, he can advocate for control of the process, making the grant conditional on that desire. Further, Sir Richard can engineer a partnership with the government. I will editorialize by positing that the VI road network is poorly designed, constructed, maintained, capitalize/recapitalized, etc. The roads are too steep,( more circular pattern design roads needed),too many almost 90 degrees vertical and horizontal curves, potholes, poor drainage, etc. Moreover, the government needs to lead from the front and take charge, ie, funding, staffing, etc manage the damn roads. The road condition is a national embarrassment. Roads in other hilly terrain countries are a marvel to look at and experience. Why can’t VI road users enjoy that same experience??

To GateKeeper, you olde boy may have gotten a little too ambitious. Branson may be enjoying living and benefitting but nevertheless he may not be into the BVI like that with his cooperate social responsibility action. Firstly, he may
not be as generous as the Haycrafts (Peter and Penny). As you noted, government needs to get to work on properly designing , constructing, maintaining the roadwork network. It needs to get the right people in the right places doing the right things at the right times for the right reasons at the right cost. Doing things right and doing the right things are not the same thing. Doing things right can efficient but not effective; whereas, doing the right thing is both efficient and effective.

the manufactured nation in its blinded hatred and racism is taking the United States and the world head long into world war three.

And, voices of reason are completely stiffled and hidden.

Perhaps the gentleman, with his inexhaustible resources should add his influence in trying to stop the genocide that the world is allowing Isreal to engage in and committ freely and without accountability or approval.

The world, along with that hateful nation, and its political institutions are clearly in a state of moral decay and ethical degredation.

So i would say you either need glasses or need stop the talking and looking at his friends and expect it to be smooth sailing
