Boscombe inspires Islanders to win over Panthers!
The Panthers, who are heading off to Dominica for the Easter weekend to play the local Police in both Football and Cricket, could have and should have reached the half time break with the scores level after Boscombe's powerful header from a corner had given Erron Ewers no chance of a save and the Islanders the early lead.
“The coach told me to stay on the edge of the box and then time my run towards the penalty spot and it worked!” commented Boscombe.
The Panthers defense, expertly marshaled all night by Louis Buckley and Wendell Anthony, stopped another flowing Islanders’ move and Randolph Davis played a wonderfully weighted through ball to Omari Scott. Scott beat the advancing Goal Keeper, Monty Butler, steadied himself and with the untended goal begging managed to screw his shot wide.
The Islanders also lost their shape mid way through the first 45 minutes, despite the settling effects of their goal advantage. The central midfield found themselves playing too far up the pitch and the Panthers were able to get a foothold and create numerous half chances to concern the Islanders Coaching Staff.Keston Orosco, who would later leave the game following a clash of heads with Boscombe, was the engine room for most of that creativity and his endeavors certainly deserved an equalizer.
At the break though, the Islanders were able to regroup and came out to dominate play with their forwards switching from flank to flank to cause havoc in the Panthers’ defense.
“At half time the coach said we must play diagonal balls, we did so and capitalized. We created a lot of chances, didn’t finish most of them, but kept going and got our reward. It was a good game,” summarized Boscombe.
Mitchell crossed for Dwayne Ross who sliced his volley wide, Khaleel Cave fired high with a snap shot just inside the area and Mitchell saw his headed goal disallowed for offside.
Then Ross rode a hard challenge 20 yards out, danced past the last defender and slotted home past Ewers only for the Referee to call play back for the earlier infringement. Any dismay was soon replaced as Nano Ottley fired the free kick past the wall, past Ewers despairing dive and inside the left hand post to double the Islander’s lead.
Moments later, Andy Davis raced down the left wing and hit a first time cross delightfully into the path of Mitchell who for the first time in the game got the better of Buckley to flick the ball past Ewers to make it 3-0.
In action on Wednesday evening were One Love and the Wolues who played to a 1-1 stalemate. The result doing neither sides chances of catching the league leaders any good. In fact, the result all but mathematically hands the Islanders the Championship.
Will Pridgeon scored for the Wolues and Alvin St Ville netted an own goal to gift One Love a share of the points.
