Big $$ to be won in 10th BVI Sunrise Half Marathon
The race will be held on Saturday December 5, 2015th at 6.00am. There is no change in course which is a sunrise flat and fast loop that starts at the A. O. Shirley Grounds, heads to Port Purcell, then to Pockwood Pond and return to the Mondo track in Road Town.
“We are very excited to announce that our kind sponsors are awarding substantial prize money and event goodies for our special 10th anniversary BVI Sunrise Half Marathon,” said race organisor Kay Reddy.
The 1st overall male and female will receive $1,000.00, 2nd overall $750.00, 3rd overall $ 500.00, 4th overall $300.00 and 5th overall $200.00.
$500.00 will also be offered to the male who sets a new course record and $250.00 for the female who breaks the record set by Meriel Steadman (1:34.09).
Michael Aish of New Zealand holds the course record for males (1:07.38).
Cash awards and sponsors prizes will also be offered to relay, race walk, veteran, oldest/youngest, best costume, travelled the furthest, fund raising and spirit of the event.

Meanwhile, registration is open and can be done online at http://www.allsportcentral.com/EventInfo.cfm?EventID=60255.
The registration fee prior to November 1, 2015 is $55.00, November 2-30 $60.00, and Dec 1-4 $65.00.
Categories include Individual, Race Walk, Relay (teams 2-4), Corporate Cup (teams of 3 from an organisation)
Registration on Friday December 4, 2015 from 5.00pm-7.30pm is mandatory as there is no registration on race day.
St Thomas’ Shane DeGannes is the defending men’s champion while Katrina Krumpler is the defending women’s champion.
DeGannes has won the race three years in succession.
The sponsors for this year's BVI Sunrise Half Marathon are Deloitte, Ogier, The BVI Tourist Board, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Road Town Wholesale, Dasina and Coca-Cola.
