BDO U7 players experience highs & lows of cup football
Earlier, in the Under 7 Divisional play offs, Montessori School suffered defeat in a penalty shoot out, going out in the quarter finals at the hands of First Impression Orange after the teams had been deadlocked, 0-0, at the final whistle.
Montessori had missed a penalty late in the second half of normal time and unfortunately, for them, fared little better in a dramatic sudden death shoot out that saw the Oranges progress to the semi finals.
However their joy was short lived as Bregado Flax Educational Centre beat them 1-0 in that semi final courtesy of a 19th minute goal from Emanuel Etienne. The same player had scored the only goal of the game, in the 16th minute, against Enid Scatliffe Red in their quarter final.
Meeting BFEC in the final scheduled for Saturday May 31st on the A.O. Shirley Ground will be Althea Scatliffe, who overcame the Seventh-day Adventist School 2-1 in the quarter final, via another penalty shoot out and then were successful, again from the penalty spot, to beat Robinson O’Neal Primary School, in the semi final, after the teams remained tied at 1-1 during normal time.
J’hari Lacey had put ASPS ahead before Temauri Isaac equalized to set up a nerve wracking final few minutes, during which Lacey went close three times to settling the tie without the added drama of penalties.
In the Under 9 semi finals First Impressions finally overcame Cedar School White, 4-0, with three late goals after a superb volley from Jalen Prentice had given his team a slender 1-0 advantage at half time.
Goalkeeper, Jerome Parkins gave FIPS some breathing space with a kick that went the whole length of the field and bounced over the Cedar ‘keeper and into the net in the 35th minute and then Jalen Lake made it 3-0 in the 37th minute before Prentice struck his second to round out the scoring in the 39th minute.
The play off drama was far from over though as then Cedar Green came from two goals down to beat Althea Scatliffe Primary, 3-2, with an extra time winner from Azarni Callwood.
His decisive strike came direct from a ASPS goal kick and was an astonishing display of skill and accuracy from a long way out, not to mention that it also gave him a hat trick and also deep into the second period of extra time.
ASPS had raced into a 2-0 first half thanks to goals from Shammah Peters and Allen Martin, but Cedar Green were undeterred and came back strong in the second half with Callwood scoring twice to level the game and send it into extra time.
His second coming in the last 60 seconds of the game. Cedar Green will face FIPS, also on Finals Day, Saturday May 31st.
The Under 12’s take centre stage from next Monday with Cornerstone playing Cedar Green and ASPS facing Cedar Blue for the right to join FIPS and Joyce Samuel Primary School in Wednesday’s semi finals.
