BDO pledges continued sponsorship for schools football league
This assurance was given by the Managing Director of sponsor BDO, Ryan R.E. Geluk, when the awards ceremony for the league was held at Greenland Football Field on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
Mr Geluk said the last league marks 10 or 11 years BDO has been involved in sponsoring the league and “every single year it is always a pleasure and it is always makes us proud to be involved in the programme.”
BDO onboard for ‘many years to come’
The BDO Managing Director said BDO was also pleased to know that many of the players from the BDO leagues over the years have gone on to be a part of the national team.
“It’s really important for us to continue this. It is really important for the BVIFA to continue to push this amongst the youth and for this to be even bigger and better next year.
“So we will be back again in the coming school year, so we look forward to again sponsoring the league… “next year and many years to come,” Mr Geluk stated.
22 schools, 56 teams
Veteran football coach and coordinator of the BDO Schools League, Ms Cassandra Gregg aka ‘Coach Cass’ said the last BDO Schools League, which started in October 2023, had 56 teams. This represents 22 public and private primary and secondary schools in the territory.
Coach Cass also said the programme is the “biggest sporting event in the BVI” and extended appreciation to parents for allowing their children to participate and also showing up at games to give support.
The school players, prior to the presentation of awards, were addressed by Mr Aubrey Liburd, who was then the interim President of the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) and First Vice President Mr Avanell Morton, who has since been voted as President of the BVIFA, and General Secretary Juliana Luke.
