Avengers advance; Ruff House & Talk Done level series

DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Ruff House and their small but vociferous group of supporters led by Sixth District Representative Hon. Alvera Maduro-Caines left rejoicing last night, October 27, 2013 after overcoming favourites Talk Done 86-82 in a tense encounter to level their Division Finals Series in the Hon. Julian Fraser/Save the Seed Basketball League.

The result means that the two teams return to the Save the Seed Energy Centre tonight at 8 P.M. to determine who will face Avengers in the League final. Avengers swept their series final with West Gunners 105-90 in game two on Friday October 27, 2013.

Ruff House came out playing aggressive basketball and were getting the better of their more polished opponents for most of the game, leading by at least 10 points most of the time, until Talk Done, led by the talented Glenal Layne (28 points, 22 rebounds), fought back to level matters in the 3rd quarter and took a narrow lead of 61-60 with just over four minutes remaining.

Jeremy Talem (23 points, 11 rebounds) and Roger Farrington (23 points), however, continued their strong game to score some crucial buckets to keep their fans active and give Ruff House a much deserved win. Shamou Dagou supported with 10 points.

Ruff House also benefitted from some good refereeing calls in the dying minutes after complaining for most of the game that they were not getting favourable calls.

Talk Done’s Nicholas Charles ended with 19 points and Kevon Lettsome 18.

Avengers were full of game on Friday October 25 and closed out their series with West Gunners with a convincing 105- 90 points victory thanks to an amazing 40-point performance from Snady Nadal who also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Radley Stevens netted 22 points and pulled 9 rebounds while Jalmez Stoutt knocked in 17 points and Omy Reyes 15.

Jamal James led the West Gunners scoring with 26 points while Kyle Abraham struggled for 17 points but pulled 11 rebounds on the other side of the court. Franklyn Fahie and Deshaun Hodge had 10 apiece.

9-12 Division

Jr Gunners reached the League final in the 9-12 Division without breaking a sweat as Wet forfeited both of their games by not showing up with enough players.

Young Starz will take on Jr Gunners in the final after sweeping their series with Swaggas. Young Starz defeated Swaggas 48- 23 on Friday October 25, 2013 and then inflicted a 41-17 thrashing on the same team last night to wrap things up in convincing fashion.

Isaiah Thomas top scored with 13 points while Elroy Matthew scored 7 and Erick Bobb 6.

Swaggas’ main scorers were Malaki Smith (7 points), K’Ntenay Maduro (2) and K'andre Clarke (2).
