ATU Trust brings holiday cheer @ annual grocery giveaway
The much-anticipated initiative, now in its fifth year, is regarded as a cornerstone of the company’s commitment to giving back, and this year’s effort was nothing short of extraordinary.
"We’re not just a trust company—we’re part of this community," said Denisha Hodge, speaking on behalf of ATU General Trust to Cathy O. Richards of JTV Channel 55, "This is one of the best times of the year for us, where we can step out of the office and really make a difference for families in need."
A collaborative process
The giveaway saw meticulous planning and widespread community involvement with pre-packaged boxes containing pantry staples, household items, fresh produce, and frozen goods prepared for about 110 families identified through a collaborative process.
"We reached out to our staff, social development agencies, district representatives, and organizations like FSN and the BVI Rainbow Home," explained Human Resource Manager, Mrs Shondria N. Turnbull.
For those unable to attend, such as the elderly and vulnerable, ATU organized delivery services so no one was left behind.
Festive Experience
The event was not just about groceries but bringing joy to families.
A vibrant ‘pop-up shopping' experience allowed attendees to browse and collect items, while children enjoyed a bouncy house.
“We’ve got everything from broccoli and apples to baby wipes and detergent,” Hodge said, "And for a special treat, some of our guests will enjoy M&M Delights' famous carrot cakes!"
The festive atmosphere was matched only by the dedication of ATU staff, who had spent the previous night pre-packing goods.
"It’s a workout," joked Mrs Turnbull, referring to the physical effort involved. "But it’s worth it when you see the smiles on people’s faces."
Team Effort
Dr. Christoph Gutmann, ATU’s Managing Director, was also recognised for his pivotal role in the initiative. "We’re grateful for his support and the efforts of our corporate responsibility team," said Hodge, "This is a company-wide effort, and it shows how much we care about our community."
Student volunteers also contributed, embodying the spirit of collective action. “This is what community looks like—everyone pitching in to make a difference,” Turnbull noted.
As the activity culminated, the overarching message was clear, no one is forgotten.
