BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI- Commentator and Pastor Claude O. Skelton-Cline has said the reason why the Virgin Islands struggles with leadership is because there are at least eleven current members in the House of Assembly (HoA) who want to be Premier.

Pastor Skelton-Cline was speaking during his weekly programme, Honestly Speaking, on ZBVI 780 AM on October 29, 2024, when he said the thirteen elected members of the HoA have one thing in common, which is they want to hold on to their position of power and the privileges and perks it affords them.

“That’s just natural, that’s just human, that’s just who we are. So don’t kid yourself, they all, all thirteen of them have that in common...none of them wants to go any lower than they are, none of them wants to lose their position of privilege,” he said.

Pastor Skelton-Cline also opined that he believes eleven HoA members desire the ultimate position of Premier and this is why there is unity lacking in government and opposition.

“At least eleven I can count, out of the thirteen all who believe that they should be Premier. This is one of the reasons why we are having such a difficult time here with leadership in the country, we are unable to unify.”

Meanwhile, he said he believes more “reshuffling” should be done in the government.
