'Ask yourself why we never had a black Governor here' - Skelton-Cline
"The fact that we have a Governor that is appointed here, that office is the symbol of the ever-present residue of colonialism, and racism, institutional. Ask yourself why we never had a black governor here," Skelton-Cline told his listening audience on the Thursday, June 9, 2020, edition of the show on ZBVI 780 AM.
Governor should come from British OTs - Premier Fahie
Skelton-Cline's comments echo similar comments made by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), who recently said the time has come for the United Kingdom (UK) to allow persons from the Overseas Territories to be governors.
“Choose about two or three or five persons from the OT’s and put them in the UK and train them how to become governors and let them become governors in different OT’s but not the one they are from."
This he said is not the Territory of the VI taking a stance against the UK but rather the VI looking at things in a mature manner, “And that is not being disrespectful,” he said.
Crown still watching VI
Skelton-Cline; however, charged that the Office of the Governor and the appointment of the crown is a symbol of institutional racism by itself. "Ask yourself how it is, that over 200 years away from emancipation that we are still being watched over by a Crown."
He also called the public holiday in recognition of the Sovereign’s Birthday a residue of colonial power in the face of dire economic times in the VI and an ill-opportune time to close businesses looking to bounce back from COVID-19.
African American George P. Floyd Jr, 46, was killed on May 25, 2020, as a white Minneapolis officer pressed a knee on Floyd’s neck, sparking racial injustice movements around the world.

The BVI is a bless place. We had two warnings: The flood (he stop it just in times before many will be lost in Road Town) and Hurricane Irma (It came in the day when we could have run and get rescue), the third one will be sorry. Please let us get ready BVI.
Please post my comments. Thank you.
Second of all why so focused on what others portray Jesus as ...that’s where you went wrong from the onset.
Focus on building your relationship with Christ. You think you make yourself.
I’m convinced people are more ignorant everyday and the Bible speaks of it.
Psalm 14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
The governor represents the queen, he is not here to represent the OT, that is the governments job.
The BVI would be 3rd world overnight if independence is decided.
This guy is one of the main reasons, he would help strip this place of any and all wealth within a week of independence.
But BVI is simply not ready now, it needs a PLAN.
The current one is to get to the money, without the current watching eye of the governor.
We need better, much better vision to move forward.
and if you think the current mentality of “grab it all now” is a good one, then we are indeed in terrible shape.
NDP members turned against NDP because the new leader Myron Walwyn was born from Expatriates parents in the BVI,and based on the fact that he was born as expat,NDP members rejected him on that basis, but you want the UK to appoint a non UK to the Governor of the BVI?
Tolians, stop this one-sided racism. The BVI is small enough for all to see,how you all dislike white people being the boss, and you couldn't accept Myron being the boss of NDP,but you know what,as usual---
Blame the Governor for the NDP breaking up because Myron is boss,Blame the governor for that too..
Now look at the diversity in the BVI - where are the representatives of the minority ethnicities in the government here?
BVI people is pure sheep......
Like slave that recently got freed and dont kno how to live free. ...with out there masters..*#*&* shame
Whites promoted themselves as superior to Blacks mentally, physically, intellectually and in all other means. That air of superiority still exist among too many Whites, especially among many in high powerful and influential positions. Anything bad or negative was tagged with a negative connotation, ie, being Blackballed. Blacks were enslaved, abused and dehumanized yet their free labour used to build the UK economy, causing it to flourish. This was the only value and worth Blacks had and is probably still the attitude. Though Blacks expended blood, sweat and tears to build the UK economy, everyone but Slaves and their descendants benefitted, ie, slave traders, slave owners, White businesses...... etc. To date, neither Slaves nor their descendants have gotten a wooden nickel of compensation. Much more to tell but more time. Is the reason why to date that there has not been a Black Governor (think the name change occurred in 1971; previously administrator) clearly obvious?
