Artistes for Vybz Kartel show begin arriving on Thursday- Steve E. Parillon

In an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online (VINO), Mr Parillon detailed that the group are in the final stages of preparation, as well as sought to immediately address concerns over government funding, and responded to some public pushback against the event.
Final Preparations & Logistics Challenges
With just days to go before the event, Mr Parillon assured that all necessary arrangements have been meticulously handled.
"Preparations are coming great; We're at this point just trying to set up the venue, making sure that people have a nice, great ambience to enjoy the show.”
According to Mr Parillon, all artistes, including Vybz Kartel, are booked, flights and accommodations are secured, and arrivals begin on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
He did note, however, that logistics continue to present challenges, particularly regarding the limited travel options to the VI.
"A lot of artists don't want to go on ferries or through St Thomas, so getting them here was a bit tricky; But everything is sorted out now.”
As a major bonus, Mr Parillon also confirmed the presence of a special surprise guest artistes set to take the stage but remained tight-lipped on their identities.
"Yes, there will be some surprise artists. I can't reveal those, but just know, you don’t want to miss this!" he teased.
Additionally, recognising the international interest in the event, organisers, he disclosed, have also partnered with Vibes Cartel Encoder Network out of California to facilitate live streaming and pay-per-view access.
"For those who can't make it to the BVI, you can download the app, pay for the event, and watch the entire show live," he said, adding that the BVI Tourist Board would also use this as an opportunity to showcase the territory to the world.
Response to Critics
Despite widespread enthusiasm among large sections of the populace and internationally, the event has faced criticism, particularly from Christian groups and some legislators, who question the alignment of Vybz Kartel’s influence with community values.
Mr Parillon, however, pushed back against this narrative, stating, "What is the BVI without adversity? I respect everyone's opinion, but at the end of the day, not everyone sees the vision until it becomes reality."
He further defended Kartel’s participation, arguing that the Jamaican dancehall star has evolved telling VINO, "Vybz Kartel is a changed man; He's trying to be a family man, a positive influence on the youth. We have to stop condemning people for their past. No one is perfect."
To critics questioning the event’s moral impact, Parillon called for less judgment and more understanding, adumbrating further, "The Christian community should remember that God forgives. (So) Who are we to judge?"
Government Support & Financing Concerns
Government support for the event has also drawn scrutiny, particularly regarding a $220,000 financial contribution, with some suggesting additional funds may have been allocated through the BVI Tourist Board.
Parillon confirmed government sponsorship but dismissed inflated figures circulating in the media.
"Yes, we received government funding, but what they contributed is just a fraction of the total cost; An event of this magnitude is nearly impossible to do without sponsorship.”
Mr Parillon also clarified that the Tourist Board has sponsored several of his past events and sees this as an opportunity to stimulate the economy and questioned rhetorically "Why wouldn’t the Tourist Board sponsor an event that brings in international visitors? That’s what they do.”
Economic Impact & Business Opportunities
Beyond the controversy, the concert he reiterated, is expected to boost the local economy, attracting visitors from across the region and beyond.
"Unlike cruise passengers who barely spend money locally, visitors for this event are booking hotels, car rentals, salons, barber shops, and restaurants for an extended stay; This is real economic stimulation.”
He, as such, pointed out that many businesses—vendors, designers, DJs, local performers, transportation services, and more—will directly benefit from the concert.
"This event is bigger than just a night of music. It’s an economic driver for the BVI," he said, noting that local and regional flights and ferries have been arranged to accommodate last-minute travellers.
For those still considering a trip, he additionally outlined several travel options, including flights via LIAT, ferries from USVI, and Speedy’s from Virgin Gorda.
This Show is Different
With final plans locked in, Mr Parillon is urging fans to arrive early and prepare for an unforgettable night, since "Gates open at 6 PM, and we are starting on time because we are broadcasting globally," he warned, stressing that this will not be the usual late-starting Tortola show.
The B.O.B Black and Black event will feature not only Vybz Kartel but also Skilli Bang, Javinci, Kuzano, Star Martin, and several local stars, including Monet, Banco, Priceless, Revelation, Ritical, and Sister Joyce. Hosting duties will be handled by Lady Mix (USVI), Jaseed, and Nuffy from Jamaica.
Mr Parillon has since also urged all to set aside negativity and embrace the moment, adamant "If you don’t want to attend, that’s fine, but don’t discourage others; We’ve invested too much into making this a success. Let’s come together and celebrate something great for the BVI."

What a ting
UK Foreign Office could easily stop this group of known criminals from entering the BVI at any BVI air or seaport.
