Arson allegedly attempted on Leverick Bay Resort & Marina
This information was confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online by Operations Manager of Leverick Bay Resort and Marina, Mr Nick Willis.
The fire reportedly started sometime between 11pm and 12am.
“There was a minor fire contained and it was no big deal, that’s it,” Mr Willis said.
Reports of attempted arson dismissed
There were reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, however, that attempted arson was being suspected. Mr Willis rubbished those assertions.
“No one knows what happened and it is still being looked into to see what happened, so nothing to report at this stage,” Mr Willis told Virgin Islands News Online.
According to reports reaching this news site, “persons were spotted on camera attempting arson on Leverick Bay facilities. Currently, the entire area is cordoned off and police are on the scene conducting investigations. Workers are also off the job currently as investigations go on. We think some people were trying to sabotage the Poker Run scheduled for May 29, 2016,” the source told our newsroom.
According to the same source, persons were seen “pouring a fluid around the buildings,” referring to footage retrieved from surveillance cameras.
Chief Fire Officer Zebalon A. McLean confirmed there was a report of fire at Leverick Bay but said he was not going to comment on any “unconfirmed banter," referring to speculations of attempted arson.
Meanwhile, up to publication time, Police Headquarters reported it was not in receipt of any reports of the fire.
“I don’t see it listed among the overnight reports,” Police Information Officer Diane Drayton said.
