Archery Association gearing up for Caribbean C/ships
The VIAA try outs will begin from 9:00 A.M. at Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) in East End, with initial sessions including an interview session with prospective members and parents/guardians, where they will be given a brief history and run down of the programme, upcoming plans and events, going over equipment list, safety procedures medical history.
According to a news release, the Association will be taking a team to the Dominican Republic April 1-7, 2018 and hopefully, a few from this new batch of athletes will become part of the team.
The Second Caribbean Development Championships will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic April 1-7, 2018 in conjunction with the Second Qualifier for the Central American and Caribbean Games. “We hope to qualify 4 athletes, 2 in compound bow and 2 in recurve.”
For the first 3 weeks, all athletes will shoot the same training bows until split into the respective disciplines, (Compound and recurve).
YEP will be an official Junior Olympic Development Training Centre, a partnership with the Virgin Islands Archery Association, who will also be working closely with Cedar International as they are geared up to begin a Junior Olympic Programme as well.
In the words of President Mr Rick Smith, “Come support our youths as we gear up for competition. Help us to help them. "Pull 'em back and let 'em fly!'”
