ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The days of acting as the Director of the Social Security Board (SSB) for Mrs. Jeanette Scatliffe-Boynes is finally over; effective January 1, 2022, she will take on her new role as the Director of the institution that she has been a part of for more than 25 years.

Minister for Natural Resources, Labour, Immigration and Social Security Hon. Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) passed the motion on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, and it received overwhelming support from members of the House of Assembly.

He said according to the Social Security Ordinance, “the Cabinet shall from time to time find fit and proper persons to be the Director of the Social Security Board, the board, on such terms and conditions as considered appropriate.”

The decision nonetheless must be done in consultation with the SSB and then it shall only then be referred to Cabinet.

“Now, therefore, be it resolved that the HoA of the Virgin Islands approves the appointment of Mrs. Jeanette Scatliffe-Boynes as director of the SSB effective 1st January 2022,” he said.

Scatliffe-Boynes holds MBA, BSc 

Mrs. Scatliffe-Boynes is the Vice President of the Inter-American Conference on Social Security (CAOSA) representing Sub-Region IV (Caribbean and Americas Social Security organizations).

She is the holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (with Honors), and has acquired extensive credits in doctoral studies focusing on organizational management, the SSB said on their website.

Lorie A. Freeman as Deputy 

At the same time, the HoA also approved Ms. Lorie A. Freeman to be Mrs. Boynes Deputy, her appointment will also come into effect on January 1.

The SSB’s website said Ms. Freeman is responsible for managing the Finance Department while ensuring the implementation and maintenance of adequate internal controls in consultation with the Director. 

“Prior to joining the Board, she has held various managerial positions for a period spanning more than twenty years within the Trust, Legal and Tourism industries. Ms. Freeman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of Virgin Islands and a Certificate in Anti-Money Laundering and Compliance from the International Compliance Association.”
