Anything but a ‘silent night’ @ Clash of the Carolers!
At the stroke of midnight, the crowds came, some in their private vehicles but most via crowded Safari buses to be a part of the caroling challenge between the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church and New Life Baptist Church.
Claiming an "early victory" after arriving ahead of their challengers, the members of the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church started out singing Silent Night.
At approximately 12:22 AM the second group arrived but its numbers were no match to the other; however, when each broke out in singing, the numbers didn't matter as their melodies and thunderous voices rang through the capital city and surrounding hill communities.
The challenge was started by Senior Pastor of the Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church Dr Micheal A. Turnbull and picked up by his cousin and Senior Pastor of the New Life Baptist Church Jovan E.L. Cline.
Hype built over a couple of weeks
Friendly banter over the past two weeks only served to hype the anticipated clash.
On Christmas morning, the groups went head-to-head singing traditional and contemporary seasonal songs.
After close to an hour, the church groups called it even and headed out to the streets to continue the Christmas tradition of singing in the streets and at some homes.
Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M Rymer (R5) was part of 'The Originals' of Cane Garden Bay Baptist Church.
Present also was Opposition Member and Second District Representative Hon Melvin M. Turnbull.
