There will be at least 51 candidates on the ballots spread across 16 constituencies in Antigua and one in Barbuda.

Prime Minister Gaston Browne filed his nomination papers at Villa Primary School shortly before midday.

Browne’s son, Gaston Andron, was among the eight people who nominated him to be the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s (ABLP) candidate for St. John's City West.

Following his successful nomination process, Browne told members of the media that he was “confident” that the ABLP would return to office.

“We selected competent men and women who have the competence to serve,” Browne said while speaking to the state-owned ABS Television.

Browne and his wife Maria Bird-Browne went viral online after a video of them wining to the beat of Soca ahead of filing their nomination papers was posted to social media.

Mrs Bird-Browne was successfully nominated as the ABLP’s candidate for St John’s Rural East.

The nomination process continues until 6 pm.

The electorate of Antigua and Barbuda will select a new government on January 18, 2023.
