Anticipation high for 2013 Leverick Bay Poker Run
The atmosphere around the community was at an all-time high as everyone was talking about their readiness for the event which starts this morning, May 26, 2013 at Leverick Bay, Virgin Gorda. According to Malcolm Swazy, the activity has taken on a life of its own, which draws the curiosity of many to join the event. “The Poker run I know for sure will have so many more power boats this year. The word about the event has been spreading, it was well promoted so I predict that many many people are going be out this year,” said Mr Swazy.
Delando Morton, who came all the way from Switzerland, commented, “I love boating and the Poker Run this year will be my first experience. I was introduced to it by a friend who took part last time and we came all the way from Switzerland, 12 of us, just for this experience.”
Morton and his friends were in high spirits as they began their partying with lots of bar-b-que and music. “I love the BVI the people are great, the place is even greater and I am just loving this place,” shouted one of Morton’s friends from a powerboat at The Baths.
The Leverick Bay Poker Run 2013 is being organized by the Leverick Bay Poker Run Committee. The organising committee has been commended by several residents for doing an excellent job at promoting the event.
The annual activity has gained its prestige over the years for exciting poker games, great entertainment and colourful powerboats that grace the turquoise waters of the Virgin Islands. This one-day event draws participants from Miami, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Croix and other places. The organisers are expecting more boats this year and hope that they will be able to donate $8,000 of the proceeds from the Poker Run to the Virgin Gorda Diabetes Association.
