FISH BAY, Tortola, VI- Even though there was a much slower crowd on the Saturday of the 2024 Anegada Lobster Festival, Director of the BVI Tourist Board and Film Commission (BVITB) Mr Clive L. McCoy said the overall event this year was a huge success.

“Traditionally, that event is slow on the Saturday, and we did experience a slower crowd on the Saturday but then the Sunday we had to run extra ferry to go up so I would say the event was a major success,” he told JTV Channel 55.

This year the festival ran from November 29, 2024, to December 1, 2024, and according to Mr McCoy, of note to the BVITB is the growth of entertainment some of the restaurants are investing in.

“One entity had Gran Masters, Gran Masters flew in for the day and then flew out the same day. So that lets you know the level that event is getting to. It is serious business on Anegada,” he stated.

Debriefing meeting in January

According to McCoy restaurants across the island also appeared to have done very well this year but stressed that a debriefing meeting is forthcoming to confirm.

“It is important that we have that debriefing meeting with them so that we can hear what their thoughts are on it but what we gathered it did well, it was incident free which is very important for the reputation of the destination,’ Mr McCoy said.

Anegada community to be more involved in planning phase

He added that he senses the Anegada community wants to be more involved with the preparation and planning of the annual Lobster Festival.

“We are going to give them the opportunity to do that because at the end of the day it’s their home, it’s their festival, they are the ones that put forth that major effort to make it now a national event and we just want to involve them more and do different things and increase the appeal of the event,” he said.

The team will also bring ideas to the community which Mr McCoy said he hopes they are receptive to as their thoughts and vision for the festival are taken into consideration.

You are so correct, major success my rump. The tourist board is in shambles and appears to be running on life support. Everything about Lobster Festival sucked this year. What are these people collecting a paycheck for? The...lobster I ordered was to oily and over cooked. Lobster should not be over cooked and rubbery.

Oh wow, what a pack of baloney! Come on man, call a spade a spade. This year could never be a "major success" . Tell the public what criteria you use to come up with that statement.

I’m here laughing and saying the exact thing. Perhaps his boss told him to say that. Nothing but a slice of baloney sitting between two slices of bread.

Major success? I don’t eat sea food but I went to get away from Tortola for the day. However, it was not a major success. Clive you need to get your $&@? together and stop embellishing things.and embarrassing yourself. I think you talk just to talk.

It was one of the worst ever with the lowest turnout. Just ask the vendors...or the lack of vendors who didn't get to operate this year due to the government bureaucracy. It was poorly planed and advertised very late. Not in advance to have a good turnout from visitors. Locals barely attended as well due to high cost of living and ridiculous grocery prices.

Romans 14 - Read to understand not talk your opinion.

“As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him.”

As I read all these comments, I had to give you the most recognition for hitting the nail on the head! That young man needs to go! Clyne would have never allowed for this foolishness to happen! He has always championed Anegadians having greater say in the festival too!

From Skelton, to Kyle, to Carnel always had Anegadians involved from early. They had many meetings with us before and after each festival.

HC and this Events premier wanted a yes man and boy did they get what they asked for in this dude. Everybody and their blind uncle knows the Lobster fest was a big failure. Barely 600-800 people when it used to be all 4,000. Taxis doing what they want. Less ferries. Even the boat man dem didn’t come in big numbers. No vendors. Same old boring event with no new vibes. A bunch of young inexperienced tourist board staff just like a lil mob sitting around doing nothing. Not talking with the tourists or visitors or even restaurant owners. Just there wasting tax payers money. Some kind of deady chef they bring who nobody knows or follows saying he is influencer. The event was a major ^$$%show!

You have said it all LB. The thing for me is if Clive had come clean and admit that Lobster Fest did not turn out well this Year, then fine. But nooooo, he stood up and lied about it being a MAJOR SUCESS. Welllll Clive you and the Premier is looking like two major laughing stocks, two major embarrassments and two major brawling donkeys. If you don’t like it then to bad. I simply don’t care.

I have to agree that the entertainment was whack, and the lobster was really not that good. They were better off hiring Jugo as the entertainment, he would have turned it up. But then and again they can’t afford to hire Jugo. and I think they knew that.

I had people from Rock tell me they will never go back, these people had been going for years. Riddle me this, three immigration officers and crappy internet. People were on the boat, wasting time they could've been on shore enjoying the festivities because the system wasn't scanning passports properly. Three Immigration Officers, Crappy Internet, Time wasted on board...... Yep, Major success (sarcasm)
