ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The Anegada Lobster Fest will continue despite the looming threat of the COVID-19 pandemic according to key Government officials.

This was revealed at a Friday, November 26, 2021, press conference led by Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) alongside Minister for Natural Resources and immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9).

COVID-19 & festivals

During the Fish Festival weekend of November 13, 2021, the Health Ministry revealed that two positive COVID-19 cases were recorded across two social events.

One of the cases were recorded to have been at the Fish Fete and the second was recorded at the Theta Kappa Honour Society Induction Ceremony held on November 15, 2021, at the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.

However, Premier Fahie said that while the virus is real and continues to be fluid, the Government’s local health teams continue to do a great job at controlling the virus and bringing the territory to a place where the situation is under control.

He indicated that while the government has spent a lot of money to get to the stage, vaccinations must continue, and priorities had to be shifted given the pandemic cannot hold the VI’s economy back.

'Mask up & man up' Pemier Fahie

“We have no intentions of shutting down again, so you have to mask up and man up, woman up and do what you have to do,” he said while encouraging persons to wear their masks and follow the local health protocols.

Hon Wheatley adding his voice to the conversation appealed to tourism operators such as boat and plane operators, to follow the local health protocols.

To the People of the territory he said, “Anegada is a very large island, avoid large gatherings spread out all over the island and just circulate… please observe all the Heath protocols,” he said.

I always avoid Anegada during lobster fest - all the rude pushy people of Tortola are there and they ruin the place. I will be heading back on Monday after the brash tolans done gone.

Sorry for you because we are all one territory. Try another country to eat lobster and get drunk in the sun because this is our home!

Er, @ Let them Be: if it really was that easy. Those who get infected (with or without symptoms) there could spread it to others who chose not to go. Those who get infected and need medical help could clog up our slim medical resources.
IMHO, the festival is madness as much as we might all want to go unless everyone is verifiably vaxxed.

I got you and I understand what you are saying but it is what it is. Just have to prepare for what’s coming next. If people want to put themselves at risk knowing the situation that’s on them. Plenty of the vaccinated and non vaccinated is putting themselves at risk. You can lead a horse to water but it does not mean the horse is going to drink.

You said the magic words, it is all about the money over health. Who want to get mad and throw back at my comment can do so. There is no way the Premier or the Minister of Health should have allowed the Lobster to go on knowing this might lead to another outbreak.Didn’t two employees of TB just turned up positive? Stop the appeasing and complacency for a couple of dollars over Health.

so you allow this event to go ahead, stillhaving published the updated figures which are now above 30+ all new infections coming from the 2 spreader events and now all those folks who partied there will now be on Anegada spreading the virus probably unknown to themselves and you do this for the economy where we might have to close for xmas/new year due to this stupid event taking place

OK, I'm happy we are reopening and I hope everyone uses good sense, so this is what I will do. I'm going to treat this like a very big hurricane is coming our way, by stocking my house with all necessary food items, and staying home during these gatherings. I will only venture into my yard. Good luck everyone, because we will need it. Please, just use common sense so we all can survive.

Congrats to RTW on there new look at the Pasea Store, becasue you made it much easier for our shopping(combining the two stores) to be ready for lobster fest. 2021 has been a great experience while purchasing goods but we only had one slight hicup every time. We always had to go to One Mart to get the best and most attractive looking bananas. We love One Mart as well but sometimes we dont have much time and needs to make a one stop shop. See where you can source some nicer looking bananas for 2022 and keep rolling.Hope to win one of those cars for Christmas.
