Andrew C. Bickerton retires as President of BVIFA
Mr Bickerton in his letter dated November 23, 2023, and addressed to the General Secretary of the Association, Ms Julianna Luke, said due to personal and family issues, he is no longer able to serve in the role and commit to the job.
“I would like to thank my present and past colleagues for their support and friendship over the past 12 years and wish the British Virgin Islands Football Association continued progress and success in the future,” he added.
While serving in football, Mr Bickerton was also the Managing Director at BDO Limited, a job he also retired from some years ago.
Career in accounting & football management
Mr Bickerton also had a long and illustrious career in accounting that has spanned the globe, including stints in Zambia and the Bahamas before settling in the Virgin Islands in 1982 to make it his permanent home.
While serving as President of the BVIFA, Mr Bickerton also moved to improve the quality of football in the VI and provide opportunities for youths by stating that as football becomes more and more structured in its approach, investment in young people will begin to reap benefits on the regional and global stage.
“Having more and more qualified coaches will only make players better prepared, play at a higher standard, and position them to gain the rewards for hard work,” he said in 2016 as a strategy to improve the game on the local fields.
Mr Bickerton was at the time speaking at an introductory workshop on February 5, 2016, for the second Confederation of North, Central American, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) “D” License Coaching Programme.
