MIAMI, Florida, USA- After being sentenced to 11 years in prison in relation to cocaine smuggling and money laundering charges on August 5, 2024, former Premier of the Virgin Islands Andrew A. Fahie has filed a Notice of Appeal.

According to court records filed Thursday, September 19, 2024, Mr Fahie could soon plead poverty and ask for the assistance of a public defender in the appeal of his conviction.

In earlier court filings, Fahie’s lawyers had said he was having trouble raising money to pay an appeals attorney, which can cost $35,000 or more in complex cases.

According to St Thomas Source in a publication on September 19, 2024, Fort Lauderdale attorney Richard Della Fera, who represented Fahie after his February conviction, paid the $605 appeals filing fee himself Thursday, saying it was part of his duties. Della Fera said he did not want Fahie to lose his opportunity to appeal over $600 but also asked the court to allow him to leave the case.

Fahie’s attorney at trial, Theresa M. Van Vliet, also asked the judge to sever her from the case but said she’d be happy to help Fahie find appropriate appellate counsel.

Della Fera said it could take 18 months for the details of Fahie’s appeal to be filed, rebutted, heard, and potentially resolved.

Here the Issue. A new trial, 2 mil for the appeal 1 mil for a new trial.. In the end he may just find guilty again..This with Andrew and Britain and the Feds very serious, almost personal. He ain getting no break..Usually another defendant will win the appeal and a new trial ordered and the feds just don't bother set them free not Andrew...

Big Man stop wasting your time, you got off lightly. Just continue doing your services in Prison and who knows you might be out sooner than you know.
Can't you see your Lawyer had enough of this and offer to assist you in finding a new Lawyer, that should tell you something.
Stop wasting everyone time and do your time.

Whats wrong with that guy, why take that risk of an increase sentence by appealing. Hope that he's not listening to the wrong advise. You got 11 years, you've been there for about two, that can be considered time serve, so you are likely to have it down to 8-9. Just do the time, save your money and come home to your family/friends

Every criminal have a right to file an appeal however, it is very hard to get the appeal approved once it get to the appeal court. Andrew, serve your time and get it over with. You are lucky you only got 11 years at least you have a chance to get out after 11 years. You could have ended up spending the rest of your life in Federal Prison.

When you mock GOD, praying to him publicly with your hands in the air, knowing good and well you were involved with Satan is very stupid. As Enough already said, you could end up spending the rest of your life in Federal Prison. Take the punishment you brought upon yourself because you were involved in all of this mess, and return home licking your wounds. If you appeal and get more years, that will serve you right. Just think about you mocking GOD and realize you got off easier than the mother and son who were your puppets. Enough already!

What happens to his pension? Instead of crying poverty (that's a term I reserve for people who are hungry, homeless, etc.) can he draw on his pension as a former legislator?

This disgrace of a man must not get the assistance of the public defender. Andrew Fahie received his full salary as Premier even after his arrest, up to the end of the 4th House of Assembly. Andrew Fahie now receives his full salary as a sitting Premier for the next four (4) years; some $10,000 per month. Upon the completion of monthly payouts, he will then receive a retirement lump sum of close to one million dollars. He also owns property and lands valued at millions.

Is our former Premier, Andrew Fahie as broke as is reported? Yes he is? No, he isn't? Maybe he is. Maybe you nor I are sure. But for sure he is hurting daily. His family members are hurting too.

In spite of his delimer and how he desire to be free from physical imprisonment, it is will be unfair for him, if truly he is guilty of the crimes, to received a lesser sentence the the former BVI PA, Olianvine Maynard has gotten.

I do simpertised with all three of them, her son included. Their prison sentence proved that crimes does pay. It pay them with prison time being experiencing in prison with untold regret, like loss of freedom, family, friends and local BVI separation, except for telephone communication and so forth.

The former Premier of the BVI, Andrew Fahie, was a pretending man of prayers. Being in prison is a good time to call on God for help in cincerity. God's ear remain open to all who will call on Him for help because of His love for humanity worldwide without ethnic preferences.

Most people don't know the meaning of true freedom. Being free to say and do as ones pleases, when and how, is in fact, bondage to stupidity (ignorant l, arrogant and others, political and religious wicked practices, etc)

In spite of, our former Premier, Andrew A. Fahie has done some things right. Don't delete the good with the bad. We all are a mixture of good and evil. May God by the mercy of His Living Grace protect him and us from all evil furtherances.

Boy, you should get down on your knees and thank the good lord that you were sentenced only to eleven years. If I were a juror you would never set foot in Tola again. You did the crime, now be a big boy and do the time.
Hope those guys inside treat you well.
You are a disgrace to your country and country men.
You had absolute power and you are corrupt.

@ John. They are still killing here because it is the Domino Effect of what started it in the first place. The crime doesn't instantly stop the ball from rolling until it comes to a complete stop! Only when all of the moss stops the ball from rolling will we see peace again.

Look at the thank you the lawyers get. They got this guy off the hook with 11 years (less than 10 when you consider the time already served) and the people still want more from them? What they must do, work for free? Which one of us willing to work for free today. Even if that was the case, we got bills to pay and mouths to feed. The work lawyers do, the research, the hours of commitment, it is not just about showing up to court and putting on a show. If they had done a bad job then fine, criticize. Long Live Lawyers!! At least the good ones. Not all of them are greedy.
