Andre ‘Shadow’ Dawson quits as Horse Owners’ Asso. PRO
On December 9, 2014, Dawson was nominated and elected to serve as the body’s PRO when the Association held its election of office bearers. Karen B. Smith-Aaron was elected as President for a third consecutive year.
Paul A. Hewlett, current acting Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, and Craig A. Lake aka 'DJ Push Pop', have both served in the capacity of PRO for the Association over the past three years and had both left the position.
When contacted by this news site, Dawson, a professional photographer and sports enthusiast, confirmed that he had quit.
“I asked to serve, they had their election. I don’t know how their election [went]. But I was nominated and elected PRO]. [However] I quit. It was because of philosophical differences with the President,” he said, speaking with this news site today March 4, 2015.
However, Secretary of the Association Melissa Young said that the body still considers Dawson to be the PRO since no formal meeting was held. She said that she heard that he has expressed that he would no longer like to be a part of the Committee.
“No formal meeting was done in that regard but I know that he expressed his concern in not wanting to be a part of the Committee anymore,” Young said. When contacted by our newsroom. “According to us he is still part of the Committee,” she concluded.
Efforts to reach President of the Virgin Islands Horse Owners’ Association Karen B. Smith-Aaron for a comment on the issue proved futile up to post time.

Seems like too much self interest to me.
It look like locals can't have two jobs in this place in this bitter-hard time.
Why does something that is on a voluntarily basis become so political. You either want to help the sport and be a team member or just stay home. Its the problem with all the sports organizations. You know its not paying before you came in ... and as a community if we want these things to be paid opportunities the community needs to support them more rather than jumping the fence and finding ways to avoid paying $10 ... running these things aren't cheap!! We either want horse racing or we don't -- we either want sports in the BVI or we don't ...
