ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Andre Ollivierre was the name pulled when the Lions Club of Tortola held its Grand Car Raffle Draw on Wickham's Cay I, at the Guyanese Association of the BVI’s Easter Monday Funday, on April 21, 2025.

Ollivierre, who purchased his winning ticket online, is now the owner of a 2025 Hyundai Grand i10.

Members of the Lions Club of Tortola tried multiple times to reach Ollivierre on the phone number provided but were unsuccessful.

“Pull another ticket since he not here,” one person from the crowd gathered for the drawing shouted. Others also agreed.

However, Past Council Chairperson Marvin O. Grant, MJF said the person needing to answer the phone call at the raffle draw was not a stated requirement.

The main sponsors of the raffle were Tortola Auto Group (TAG) and Nagico Insurances.

It's unfair. What if the person travels or at work and can not answer the phone at the time.

Highest commendations to Mr. Grant for making such a wise decision. Whilst others may be offended by the stance he took because the winner did not answer his phone, it’s the principle that counts. Sometimes hasty decisions can lead to great consequences and the service that the Lions give cannot be compromised. I am pleased to know that in this instance Lion Grant did not throw out the baby and the bath water out the window. Congrats to Mr. Olivier and the Lions Club.

The man won the vehicle out right why should they make another drawing?
Put yourself in his shoes, what if the man in a surgery?
what if the man in the toilet/shower and phone charging
How many time you people have had miss calls?
Good luck young man in claiming your winning
    Congrats

Kudos to the Lions club and to the community for supporting this raffle. I applaud the principle of them not pulling another number because of peer pressure. I don't know where that idea came from as unless it is stated on the ticket that the winner must be present, then fair is fair. Congrats to Mr. Ollivierre.
