Andersen hat trick inspires Islanders
His first in the 63rd minute came when he calmly rounded the keeper to slot home from close range; his second in the 64th minute after he supplied a perfect pass for Andersen to fire home.
His third was scored in the dying minutes of the game. “Very pleased, haven’t been scoring recently so it felt really good. After I hit the cross bar I thought it was going to be like usual, but God was on my side and the goals came. It’s a confident booster for the team too; we are starting to play well now,” commented Andersen.
Midfielder Nano Ottley had opened the scoring in the 2nd minute following a deep cross from Dwayne Ross. Henroy Mitchell controlled the ball, took a touch and then found the unmarked Ottley on the edge of the six yard box. He made no mistake with a powerful header.
It was Mitchell, himself, who doubled the Islanders lead in the 23rd minute and another flowing move in the 36th resulted in Ross heading home. Francis Primo and Andy Davis combined down the left flank, before Davis supplied the final ball to the far post.
Andersen came on as a substitute and started the 2nd half by hitting the cross bar, but it took the Islanders another 12 minutes to increase their tally.A corner taken from the left looked to have been punched clear by the keeper, Haneef James, but somehow he missed his clearance and Noel Isaacs was on hand to head home from 12 yards out.
Then came Andersen’s double, making it 6 nil, before Old Madrid, making a rare sort into Islanders’ Territory scored little more than a consolation goal on 79 minutes.
Grant Gregg battled to win the ball and laid a pass into the path of Kenmore Peters to fire past the otherwise untroubled Shain Henry. The infringement on the Islanders serene path to victory stung them into action and a little more than 3 minutes later, Andy Davis popped up on the right wing to finish a maisy run with his first goal in over a year to make it 7-1. Andersen rounded things off in style in the 89th minute to complete his hat trick and the rout.
Early on in the game, the Islanders had chosen a ponderously slow almost over baked build up play in an attempt to break down Old Madrid. Although they did score 3 goals during the first half, it was a strange tactic that belied their natural game and also allowed Old Madrid to stay in the game longer than should have been allowed.
As Assistant Coach “Left” pointed out, “I think the guys underestimated the Madrid team and came out too relaxed, but they eventually realized what was what and started to play well. It was good to get Andersen back on the score sheet and Andy Davis was long overdue a goal.”
Old Madrid Coach, Winston Potter, will be going back to the drawing board and whilst realizing the age of his players may be against him, he hopes to organize training and practice for his players to make them more competitive in the league.
