The Ministry in a letter to parents and the general public this morning said the decision to close schools today is crucial for ensuring the safety of students and staff, as it is forecasted to have a seventy per cent or a high chance of showers.

“The recent downpours have already caused significant disruptions and hazards, necessitating heightened caution. Students and teachers are asked to remain at home.

Online platforms to be utilised

“To support ongoing education, teachers will facilitate lessons and issue assignments via online platforms. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in prioritizing the well-being of our school community. Stay safe and take the necessary precautions during this period of inclement weather,” the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports stated.

Meanwhile, H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) has also announced the closure of its campuses in Tortola and Virgin Gorda today.

HLSCC said examinations scheduled for today, May 8, 2024, will be rescheduled.

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has said moisture and instability in association with a persistent upper-level trough continue to generate periods of cloudiness showers across the Virgin Islands.

It said the weather today will see cloudy skies with a 70 percent or high chance of showers.
