ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – All matters slated to be heard in the Magistrates’ Court for this week have been deferred to “either next week or early February,” according to a front desk staff at the John’s Hole Magistrates’ Court yesterday January 20, 2016.

This was told to this news site’s staff upon making inquiries as to why there was no court in session on the times during this week that we visited hoping to sit in on matters.

However, that officer could not say exactly why matters to be heard this week had been pushed back.

As the year 2015 drew to a close, many of the matters before Magistrate Ayana Baptiste-DaBreo were given dates in January 2016.

According to one attorney, he received no notice of the closure of the Magistrate's Court and was shocked on hearing the news of the closure as he had cases down to be heard.

This news site understands that the reason for the closure might have to do with training for staff. Efforts to reach Court Manager Eunice Crawford proved futile up to post time.

We will bring more details on this as more information is made available.
