All aboard for Sunday’s Scotiabank 20/20 Final
Both teams will be battling for championship prize money of $2,000, while the losing finalist will receive $1,500. Following the game, officials from the BVICA and Scotiabank will be on hand for a presentation ceremony.
Sunday’s game will begin at 12:00 noon and Smith’s Ferry will depart Road Town at 10:00 a.m. The BVICA has arranged a subsidised $10 return fare for team supporters and cricket fans going to Virgin Gorda to see the game. Umpires will be Charlie Jackson and Reid Robin.
In last week’s semi-finals, Cavaliers overcame a strong challenge from Virgin Gorda to win by two wickets off the last ball chasing a daunting 202, while a team-spirited Vikings strangled what appeared to be a panicky Vincy team in defending a modest 151.
Come Sunday, Teddy Nandkishore, the Cavaliers newly appointed skipper, and Vaden Walker, his Vikings counterpart, are both former national players who will be looking for their first championship as captain.
The Cavaliers have beaten the Vikings in all domestic BVICA Hard Ball Cricket league matches dating back to Greenland in 2008 and 2009 and Virgin Gorda in 2010. But earlier this year, Vikings beat the Cavaliers in the BVICA Tape Ball Cricket finals at the Cruise Ship Dock in Road Town, after the Cavaliers had beaten them in the preliminary rounds of the tournament.
A similar scenario awaits the two teams on Sunday, as the Cavaliers won handsomely by 51 runs when the two teams played each other earlier in the tournament. With no domestic league in 2011, Cavaliers are the defending champions from 2010, having also won the two previous years.
Hard Ball and Tape Ball nonetheless, a clash of the champions beckons when the two captains go out to spin the toss at noon on Sunday.
