HAWK'S NEST, East End, Tortola, VI- An Ak-47 was taken off the streets and one man was left nursing serious injuries after a vehicle being pursued by police in the East End area on Sunday night, August 25, 2024, went over an embankment.

According to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), police attempted to intercept two vehicles suspected of lookout activities in the Hawk’s Nest area.

Both vehicles fled the scene, leading police on a high-speed chase. During the pursuit, one of the vehicles went over an embankment. By the time officers arrived, the occupants of both vehicles had already escaped.

AK-47 & injured man found

"On Monday, August 26, at the break of dawn, RVIPF officers returned to the scene and recovered an AK-47 assault rifle. Additionally, a male individual with serious injuries was found and promptly transported to Dr D. Orlando Hospital for treatment," the RVIPF stated in a press release today, August 26, 2024.

The RVIPF said it is actively investigating this incident and is working diligently to gather further details. It also said updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.

The RVIPF is urging the public to provide any information related to the incident. Persons are encouraged to confidentially call the Crime Stoppers line 800-8477 (TIPS) or overseas call 1-284-800-8477 with the relevant information; or contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

Wait wait wait...... so the police left the scene without checking on the occupants after it went over the embankment? WHAT?...the article says there was a chase on Sunday evening....One vehicle went over the embankment....By time the police arrived the occupants had fled..(or so they presumed?) If it was a high speed chase how come they were so far behind that they could flee, presumable on foot, before police arrived?)....On Monday at daybreak, they returned to the scene and recovered an assault weapon and found a male with injuries? If the police left the scene the night before and did not check/secure the vehicle etc that is incredibly negligent. So they did not search for occupants or search for weapons or drugs after the vehicle went over the embankment.....a vehicle that they were chasing in a high speed pursuit????? They just assumed they fled and left the vehicle unchecked and unsecured til the next morning???Are you kidding me? Don't get me wrong, kuduos for getting another weapon off the street and an extremely dangerous one at that but really? The procedure of that chase needs to be looked at or the reporting is giving us the wrong story of what happened.

I agreed with totian observation something doesn't make sense here, either the police was sacred or incompetent. They would have been aware of two suspicious vehicles and occupants therefore it would have been necessary to have another or more vehicles responding to the incident, maybe they took it for granted.
Unless the journalist misinterpreted the police press release something ain't add up here. Maybe more guns was in their possession as well. Thank God they at least got 1 off the streets.

This is my honest thought when reading it as well, you would think that something as serious as this police would have secured the scene and left armed officers until morning. At this point you don't even know if those people came back and took things from the vehicle afterword's. To tell me that you're chasing a car and it goes over and embankment and then you get out your car do a glance around and say " ohh well we gon check it in the morning" is a massive lack of crime scene protocol. Do note it is normal for police to leave a scene and return at day break to continue the investigation, however that is only done after the scene is secured, and any areas searched and cleared of any persons, and large evidence collected and secured. The fact that it was night in my opinion is no excuse, the police should be equipped with bright at least 1000+ lumens flashlights. I am not bashing the officers at all because they're doing an amazing job however I feel like a bit of fine tuning and proper equipment will aid massively and go a long way in their work.

Exactly this over a cliff at night and you’ve been avoiding police? They are not obligated to check if they’re ok or whatever that’s fire and rescue.. also fire and rescue refused to go help so why should the officers? They did the right thing and waited until they can see also hawk nests is a pretty dark area much less to going over a cliff… the officers barred the area as they should

If ever a time comes for the people to get together it is now. With Assault weapons on our island the police are outgunned. What do you expect an unarmed underpaid member of the ranks to do? Steal evidence? Bribe and be bribed?

Wow. This is a lesson to mind your company. To think no one came to check on him while he suffered all night. Tsk tsk. He could have been at the hospital sooner but did the police really check that hard? Or say to themselves not I going into the bush at night after them... night shift over, lol smart move. A k9 would have found him by this article he wasn't too far away.

Excellent work RVIPF, keep besting the iron while its hot. But for the public help, the picture of the captured person should be publish so that people can know or have an idea as to who they are dealing with. It's now public knowledge of the incident.

Good job officers, just keep up the pressure on these idiots destroying the place with their guns and ammunition, the laws are too soft on gun crimes, because in no time they will be back on the streets doing the same thing.

    High-speed chase: Bad
    Get away vehicle crash: Good
    Male seriously injured: Good
    Male taken to hospital: Good
Found AK-47 in the vehicle: Even better than good
That will teach their stupid behinds to stop putting us in danger. Who do they think they are?

????serious fault, the day after the events there are already 3 cases in less than 5 months that will return to the association of the facts after 12 or 24 hours, instead of putting all the National Security agencies to work together on each caseM

This is interesting because fire & rescue is responsible for doing that type of stuff why isn’t the media saying that fire & rescue refused to go down and check the area and police tied a rope on themselves and went down as it was a cliff the vehicle went over??
