Airports among closures today due to TS Ernesto

TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- The three airports in the Virgin Islands will be closed later today, August 13, 2024, as Tropical Storm Ernesto approaches the Virgin Islands (VI).

As the VI remains under a Tropical Storm Warning, other entities to close will be the BVI Ports Authority port facility.

Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority Mr Kurt A.G. Menal stated in an advisory on August 12, 2024, that the Taddy Bay International Airport on Virgin Gorda and Auguste George International Airport on Anegada will close at 10:00 AM.

TB Lettsome Int. Airport to close @ 11:00 AM

The Territory’s main airport, the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, will close at 11:00 AM.

Mr Menal has advised that all airports would remain closed until the “all clear” has been given and a complete assessment of each airport is conducted. He added that further information would be provided on the reopening of the airports subsequently.

Passengers with confirmed travel for August 13 and 14 are asked to contact their respective airlines directly for further information.

BVIPA ports facility closure

Meanwhile, the BVI Ports Authority said it will issue additional advisories as necessary and that the reopening status of port facilities that close due to the inclement weather will be issued once assessment of each facility is completed.
