TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- At around 4:52 PM today, Sunday, May 5, 2024, an Email was sent to one of Virgin Islands News Online's (VINO) Email addresses purporting to be from a ‘Vika Melin’ with a foreign language at the bottom of the name which appears to be from Eastern Europe.

The caption of the Email was “Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport will be bombed today”. Knowing our news centre’s history of responsible journalism, we did not rush to report about the Email, unaware of whether it was credible or a hoax.

Quick action by Police & BVIAA

Our News Centre immediately shared the Email with members of the National Security Council (NSC), including Commissioner of Police Mark Collins, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7), and Minister for Communications and Works, Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) whose portfolio is also the airports. The Email sent to VINO was also forwarded to the BVI Airports Authority's Managing Director Mr Kurk A. G. Menal and Deputy Commissioner of Police St Clair Amory.

The NSC and the BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) took swift action and temporarily closed the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island to protect the citizens, staff, and passengers’ safety, according to a press statement released by the Authority.

After a police sweep of the airport, it was reopened at around 7:30 PM this evening and flights have since landed and taken off.

Email threat

As the police conduct further investigations, we will not reveal the full contents of the Email; however, the Email was clear about a bomb threat to the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, giving the flight number, the type of bomb, where it would be placed and the alleged time of the explosion and what the bomb was made from.

It is unclear if any other media houses in the Territory received the same Email. We will bring more details as this matter unfolds.

Many undesirable persons live here, and the Immigration department wouldn't do anything about them.

there are a lot of obnoxious people in this world that are dangerously provocative. they have nothing else to do but to harrass and provoke everyone. people mindset is to find a way to make other people feel pain and to get hurt and to endanger other people life so that other people can lose their life. some people in this world have nothing else to do but to find trouble to make trouble with everyone else. their mindset is harming people around them.

YEP , WE ARE AT THE MERCY OF OUR YOUTHS , FIRST , THEY
ARE VERY * SMART * AND WHILE THE GOVERNMENT IS EXPOSING THEIR NEGLIGENCE , THE YOUTHS ARE USING IT TO
THEIR ADVANTAGE , SADLY , ITS NOT ON THE CONSTRUCTIVE SIDE , ALL BECAUSE THERE IS IS NOTHING IN PLACE TO GUIDE THEM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION , MEANWHILE OUR LEADERS FOCUS IS ONLY ON POWER AND HOLDING ON TO IT / THEN THERE IS THE
OPPOSITION , WHO WANTS IT / AND THE INFRASTRUCTURE IS EXPERIENCING THE ( SIDE EFFECTS ) OF THEIR NEGLECT , HOPEFULLY IT WON'T ESCALATE INTO SOMETHING DEADLY , WE HAVE BEEN GETTING THE WARNING SIGNS , FOR YEARS NOW , WHEN LAST HAVE WE HEARD ANY POLITICIAN TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING TO DO IN THE SITUATION WITH THE YOUTHS , EXCEPT FOR THE FREE JAMS , WHICH I DON'T THINK IS GOING TO DO ANY FOR OUR INFRASTRUCTURE OR OUR YOUTHS
