However, her run for public office caused controversy in The House of Assembly (HoA), as many of the old guard see Moses-Scatliffe's retainment of the House Speaker position as an abuse of power and conflict of interest.
Morally wrong?
While many elected members have said to our newsroom that legally, Moses-Scatliffe can remain Speaker, morally and ethically the situation is wrong. In the West Minister System of Government as practice, the Speaker is expected to be impartial and Mrs. Moses-Scatliffee appears to be abusing privileges.
One senior member of the ruling NDP who is the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr. The Hon Kedrick D. Pickering (R7) had the courage to go public to condemn her action calling it a blatant abuse of power which undermines the House as an institution.
Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) who also took the same position as Hon Pickering wanted the Speaker to recuse herself while the issue was being raised. However, she did not and stated that she had asked the Attorney General, Hon Baba Aziz to grant his opinion on the matter.
The HoA will meet on October 2, 2018 for the second sitting of the fourth session and Mr. Aziz is expected to give his ruling then. The public is anxious for the desolation of the HoA to give way for a new general election.

just putting this out there: the modern day Virgin Islands society is very skillful at tearing down its own people: how come no member of the parliament stands up and question why post that our-people can fill is handed off to others: our people ran the ports for many many years but now none of our people have enough common sense to fill that post(its a fact so don’t get mad at me)...the future of our grandchildren is at stake in this place our forefathers work so hard for: no current political conversations about our future or the future of the territory(just a bunch of he say; she say: old talk)...we need leadership with vision; where will this territory been in the next 30 years(in the hands of China or the hands of the Virgin Islanders)
This is a country based on the rule of law! Whether you like it or not the Speaker is not subject to assumptions.
If any of those talking knew anything about morals or ethics then they should take their own advice and get out of town.
The speaker being a lawyer should know that she has crossed the lines. Whether she is from here or not, the law is the law. If she is allowed to remain in her position as speaker then public servants should be allowed to express their political affiliation to the party of their choice while being employed.
