After being ousted from HLSCC Dr Dawson now heads Anguilla Community College
This is according to a press release issued by the Anguilla Community College today Wednesday August 9, 2017.
Dr Dawson was selected by the Board of Governors of the Anguilla Community College after a lengthy search process. As per the College Act, the Board’s recommendation has met the approval of the Anguilla Minister of Education, Hon Cora Richardson-Hodge.
In an exclusive interview with our newsroom, Dr Dawson said, "I count it as a tremendous privilege to be selected to serve as President of the Anguilla Community College and help to advance that community because I really believe that education is the key to the development of a society.
Dr Dawson said the decision to take up the post was a tough one because of the strong ties he has with his homeland including his family, church and political service. However, he added that "at this stage I think I have something to contribute to education ... and I will pursue the opporutunity to help the Anguilla Community College move forward".
Dr Dawson was a casuality of political victimisation
Dr Dawson, who is expected to take up his new job on August 28, 2017, was replaced at HLSCC by Board Member and consultant Dr Janet B. Smith in August 2016.
Following Dr Dawson’s removal in 2016, sources close to the situation had told our newsroom that some in the political and academic class, including the controversial Minister for Education and Culture, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) and some Board Members, allegedly wanted him gone as soon as possible.
Many have claimed that Dr Dawson was a casuality of political victimisation, having run for political office and opposed the current government.
Educational Achievements and Contributions
Dr Dawson’s tenure at the HLSCC was for seven years as president from 2009 to 2016. He earned degrees from the University of the West Indies in hotel management, Wright State University (USA) in education and doctoral degree from University of Florida in higher education administration. His doctoral dissertation was entitled Organizational Learning in a Community College.
Among Dr Dawson’s many post and accomplishments at HLSCC are, he served as vice president, dean, head of academic department and faculty member in addition to his final role. While serving as President, the College was accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in the USA, a process he indicated that was challenging for the entire organization but also very rewarding. Dr Dawson is also active in the higher education sector in the region and beyond. He is the current president of the Association of Caribbean Tertiary Institutions (ACTI), headquartered in Barbados.

This decision was probably not an easy one for Dr. Dawson, but he will be fine once he get settled in.
This move should speak to all those who may find limited opportunities to advance their careers here in the BVI: The BVI is a small country with limited opportunities in many areas.
Don't be afraid to think outside the box or your comfort zone. The world is filled with opportunities. You just have to be open them.
Again, Congrats Dr. Dawson. God speed.

I say congratulations to Mr Dawson and give good wishes. He is a good guy. However, I hesitate to throw shade at the BVI choice of education leader at the college.
