ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Some called it political strategy, others political suicide, however, the only Government Minister in the history of the Virgin Islands House of Assembly never to face a question in his entire term in office [2011-2015] is the Deputy Premier and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour, Dr The Honourable Kedrick D. Pickering (R7).

However, following the 2015 general elections that saw his ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) Administration back in power with a landslide victory and increased majority, the veteran legislator from Look Long on the eastern end of Tortola was asked his first question.

Second question on Labour matters

It was on January 25, 2016 that Dr Pickering faced his first question from Senior Opposition Member Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) in the House of Assembly in the new session after his four year break.

Now, for only the second time, Hon Pickering will face a question in Parliament. It will be on Monday April 18, 2016 at the Eighth Sitting of the First Session of the Third House of Assembly that the Deputy Premier and Minister for Labour will face a question, this time from Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3).

The Leader of the Opposition is to ask the Labour Minister Hon Pickering about the number of employees that will be affected from the Little Dix Bay Resort closure on Virgin Gorda and the number of those that are belongers and residents.

The Third District Representative is to also ask the Seventh District Representative and Deputy Premier “if work permits will be issued to those affected Little Dix Bay Resort workers before belongers and residents are employed during the 18 month period?”

More questions for others

The Opposition Leader also has other questions for front bench Ministers of the NDP Administration, ranging from the $7 Million given to BVI Airways, whether the same airline paid its outstanding debt to the BVI Airports Authority, and information on all public servants who have reached the age of 60 and over.

The Opposition will also be seeking answers to the number of leased spaces at the controversial Tortola Pier Project and rent collected so far.

Hon Fraser will also be seeking truthful answers on an update on the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) projects and if the Government is still purchasing water from the Aqua Design GE water plant in Sea Cows Bay, among many other questions.

Fraser answer all questions when he was minister.
There were never any questions about biwater. You mean Mark and Olando don't answer questions on Tortola Pier Park

We were accustomed of eating from the land, now Agriculture is a dying way of eating in the BVI. But we may have to revisit it because only God knows what is going to befall us. The farmers had to hold their own farmers week. A free for all with the Dept. of labour. Companies doing as they wish -- creating jobs for their friends and sidelining the locals. Our people are not going to England. Our children must be fed in their own land. Stop sleeping, brother.

You all always killing the Government yet you can't do without them. Why should Government be involved? Plan the damn thing a year in advance, get everyone to contribute, seek sponsors, host fundraisers, get your voices out there and people will come on board. Sitting back waiting on February morning to blame Government is just a bunch of bullshit. It's the same thing with Festival and most things around here. Everyone talks talks talks but nobody wants to get off their asses and do anything. When I was growing up I witnessed regular citizens, small business owners and others busting their asses to put on Festival and other events without a peep from the Government. You all are truly sickening! If you have a farmers association, get your shit together and put on the event if you think it's important to the Territory. Should Government assist? Of course! But they shouldn't be the 'be all end all' in this situation. How much can it really cost for farmers to put on their own show? They just did it, but still complaining? Wow.

Frazer and Fahie looking fried. There are hundreds of questions that can be asked. The opposition more concern about friendship than doing their job.
