POND BAY, Virgin Gorda, VI- Despite many activities happening on Tortola on the weekend, the annual Christmas in July turned out to be another success this year.

The event at Pond Bay on Saturday, July 20, 2024, drew a massive crowd and a large fleet of vessels.

"Xmas in July was a success this year," Director of Tourism Clive L. McCoy commented.

"With about 5000 people and 500 vessels, the event continues to grow," Mr McCoy added.

Christmas in July is an annual event in the VI where boaters from Puerto Rico and other nearby areas unite in the islands for a week of festivities. It is a tradition that started in 2007 and has grown to attract thousands of visitors each year.

The Director of Tourism said the successful event could not have been possible without the generous support of the various government departments.

"Annually, it is massive undertaking that requires all hands in deck," Mr McCoy shared.

I wonder how they arrived at those figures? Are they randomly pulled from a hat?

Of course it is a complete guess. 5k is a suspiciously large number.

All the government doing is spending the tax payers money on pure crap. VG is so under developed all that money every year should go into the people not the government. Every time the government have something it's your money.

As always a really well run event with things to appeal to everyone from belongers, to residents and tourists. Would guess costs are kept in control by the sponsorship. Government could learn a lot from this event to make their music fests more appealing to everyone and less of a drain on our money.

a thousand Fathers , failure is an orphan. Aggroance and hubris prevents leaders from learning from this event.

WTF u really having a WTF moment isn't there other ways that people can get to the bvi for example the airport. U quick to try blast people and sound so stupid think before u write. Don't u know other people attend this event also? And for the other people who is asking how they arrive at the numbers this is how. You had to buy a cup to get drinks at the event and they had 5000 cups and all sold out before 1pm so there was more than 5000

How do you know there were 5000 cups sold? How do you know everyone bought 1 cup only? How go you know everyone bought a cup? I didn't buy 1 because I don't drink. Others bought lots of cups as souvenirs.

All the money for this party comes com Puerto Rivo sponsors and helps the BVI economy leaving millions in local businesses you know nothing about this party the government only helps us on permits and paperwork. The puertorican navy bring business never seen in BVI on the whole year and organizers don’t earn money from this only BVI BUSINESSES.well organized no fight no accident with help from police hospital and many more and the most beautiful thing is they leave the beach cleaner than ever.

As someone mentioned few days ago it won’t be long until Tola People try to copy this as there’s no originality anymore.

If BVi were to run this the beach would be trashed, fights would break out, drugs would be rampant, boats would be sunk and females would be assaulted. You know it's true. We just can't organise anything that looks remotely like what these guys do. Which is why governments of both stripes claim other people's accomplishments. We have good, smart ppl here. They are not politicians.

Puerto Rico, thanks for a great party, beaches left cleaner than when they started, no drug busts, no shootings, no brawls. BVI Festival, hope you took notes on how to run and beave at an event.

Everyone commenting negatively on this is so stupid. The Puerto Ricans come in an spend millions of dollars here, not to mention put on one heck of a cool party and leave it spotless after.

We love the Puerto Rican Navy!!!

We owe a debt of gratitude to our Puerto Rico friends that extends well beyond Saturday's event. Today alone I counted 50 vessels with home ports in PR anchored and moored at The Bight. Another dozen moored at Little Harbor and countless others in Spanish Town, Nanny, Village Cay and elsewhere. A plethora of PR boats... with wonderful people aboard... have been in the BVI for several weeks... and will be for several more. Muchas gracias amigos and amigas!

3 days later and this clown knows all the numbers! But I to note they can’t give we the numbers on the nonstop concert nor the Road Town music fest. But since this is seen as a success all of a sudden he and Tourist board want to take credit. Foolishness!

Not sure why it sounds the Christmas in July was a TB organized event for which they’re taking credit for.
Asking for us dummies in the back.

Puerto Ricans have been hanging out at Virgin Gorda for decades and have made many friends locally. They are the ones that started this party and all of a sudden BVITB started to dip-in, They are our neighbors and are very nice people. Now they love their loud music, but nothing is wrong with having clean fun.
