ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Twelve tries, a drop goal and seven conversions by the BVI Select XV was ample reward for a good night’s work and a 77-5 thrashing of George Washington State University Rugby Club on Monday March 12, 2012.

Undeterred though, the inexperienced boys from Foggy Bottom have vowed to come back stronger in the second game on Friday March 16, 2012 which will be played on the A.O.Shirley Ground at 6 p.m.

Their Try scorer, John Kelley, commented, “For who we brought down and what we brought down I thought we played well. It was a tough match; we worked well together and put up a hell of a fight despite a poor first half. In the second half though we made it more of a game, I don’t see us doing anything but coming back strong, We know how they play now and will come hard!”

The BVI were led by 17 points from the boot of Matthew Plimmer. “Very pleased with the score line,” he stated. “Obviously we weren’t sure what we were going to be up against and to be fair their boys grew into the game. It was testament to us that we took the opportunities to score when they arose and got points on the board with lots of tries. Many people got hands on the ball and we were really aggressive.”

For the record apart from Plimmer’s seven conversions and one drop goal, the BVI also got three tries from Patrick Dennis, two each from Johnny Bailey, Jimmy Peters and Jerome Springett as well as single scores from Johnny Draper, Ian James and Franklyn Victor.

“A win is a win big or small a win is a win, the guys had a lot of fun this afternoon, but I was pleased with the overall performance,” commented Coach Sam Solomon. “The pack showed a lot of promise, they have been working hard. Patrick Dennis, André Adams and Alex Davidson and most of the forwards really took the game to them and created pressure and scoring opportunities.”

To find out if the Huff and Blues of George Washington State have learnt a lesson from this mauling make sure you come out to the A.O. Shirley Ground on Friday.
