ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Following aggressive contact tracing and testing, another 9 new COVID-19 cases have been detected in the Virgin Islands, bringing the total number recorded in the Territory to 35.

This was reported minutes ago, August 28, 2020, by Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) via a live COVID-19 update livestreamed on the Government of the Virgin Islands’ Facebook page.

According to Hon Malone, 529 persons were tested for coronavirus between August 25-27, 2020, and these persons were mainly comprised of primary and secondary contacts of recently identified cases #12 through 26.

9 new cases of COVID-19

Swabs and testing, Hon Malone continued, included residents of Anegada, returning nationals and belongers and other categories of persons routinely tested for COVID-19.

“I am further reporting that 520 of these results were returned negative while 9 were returned as positive for the virus that causes COVID-19,” Hon Malone said.

The 9 new cases, according to the Health Minister, were linked to known clusters on the eastern end of Tortola and in Road Town.

With these additional findings, the total number of positive cases recorded in the Territory is now 35.

2 hospitalised

Hon Malone also disclosed that 2 of the positive cases are hospitalised; however, none of the patients are experiencing severe symptoms of COVID-19 disease.

The total number of persons tested in the Territory is now 2853.

More details to follow.

I never knew that people could be this ignorant. So you mean to tell me that the virus chooses to only affect the rest of the world, the rest of the Caribbean, but not VIslanders? The virus doesn’t choose who it wants to affect; no one is immune. Furthermore, everyone that is blaming “down islanders” sound just as bad as Trump & “Americans” that point fingers at foreigners in their country (America) for everything that goes wrong instead of looking in the mirror. Being this ignorant should be both a crime & a sin.

In the morning the Milf's are out in each other faces giggling and talking with no masks on. So if the virus wants to move the night clubs and bars have nothing to do with... Before the out break 60% of The BVI wore no masks or mask under their chins. SO blame one blame all...

It is time to take some drastic action. Have testing station set up in every district and make it compoultry for everyone to be tested.Ensure stiffer penalty for violators, regardless of who, this thing is no joke, check the US death rate. Lock the country down and carry out a rigid campaign. It is a matter of life and death. Choose life.
  • Note to Gov (28/08/2020, 12:57) Like (9) Dislike (11) Reply
Listen right. Hear me out on this. The only reason why the numbers of cases will continue to climb if we don’t go on lock down.

As we are aware that we have 9 more cases, and people are going out to test. That is a hazard right there. You know why? You don’t know who’s positive and who’s negative. That way you practically setting yourself up to be exposed to the virus. .
People currently going out testing and they refuse to test because they don’t want this swab go in their nose holes

Another thing. We not on lock down, but we go out to super markets, banks, telecom offices, stores what ever. We don’t know who is who. We don’t know who’s infected and who not infected.

You touch something contaminated with the virus, we talk to someone with the virus, we touch someone with a shake of a hand or whatever the case may be, we touch these faucets in these stores after washing our hands, and then we touch ourselves to them get infected.

The point I’m trying to bring out, we must declare a lock down to prevent further community spread. Yes, I understand your intentions of not going on lock down for the instance where you want these business up and running to make our economy functional, but it’s better minimize the spread than maximize the spread to then paralyze the BVI.

Becase, what do you expect from this? People already not coming forward with the virus, more people getting infected without even knowing it, the numbers are climbing. This is so sick that people know who they been with and they not coming forward stating that they not sick or nothing.

You saying we have to live with this virus. 26 cases is a lot for bvi. For a small rock like The BVI, 26 CASES IS ALOT!!!!! You saying “We going get through this together” DECLARE A LOCK DOWN! And while we on lock down, it will be awesome if you test us inside our dorms while on the lock down.

I rest my case. You decide what’s best for your country, you’ss the man of the house. But I’m telling you this here, play your cards good. Because of corona decide to slap you with 3 Ace, you’re a dead man.

      • Re (28/08/2020, 15:24) Like (5) Dislike (1) Reply
You sound retarded. I am not a civil servant. Most of us, including myself, went through the same “no work no pay” situation back in April, why not take the risk and do it again just to have this under control. As I said, a lock down would be necessary to prevent further spread, if you read between my lines clearly.

We can not afford to have 30+ cases in a small rock like the BVI. We can’t afford to have no cases period. Ofcourse, we cannot control the virus from coming into our borders, but we can definitely prevent it from spreading islandwide.

From there, once the spread has minimized, fight it off more by adhering to the usual preventative protocols: social distancing, hand washing, etc. like we were supposed to do since phase 2 (which most locals failed to do)

If we work together, I believe we can get through this. All it takes is brains and a positive mindset.

        Good day 2U2

Partial lock down is a non starter. The virus still spreading 5-5. Minimizing the monies Government has to spend while lavishing persons and projects seems disingenuous. Tightening our belts means just that not blessing some. The economy is currently unsustainable. Persons unemployed for 6 months and cannot afford to sustain their lives need compassionate flights back to their home/birth country (less numbers). Once a vaccine is found, immigration can resume. If and when up stimulus grants to assist the economy(gas, food, internet bills, ect ) until we are out of the woods.

Community Spread in the BVI inevitably means lost lives therefore a lockdown instead of a partial is required to save lives. We just buying time and have been lucky thus far. Wait until the ‘wrong’ person dies.

The BVI full of co- mobility illnesses.
