8th BVI Half Marathon gets continued support from Ogier
The presentation was made at the Ogier office on Wickham’s Cay.
The BVI Half Marathon is now in its 8th edition and each year has seen an increase in participation, attracting overseas runners as well as many local athletes.
“It's been building rapidly over the years and we are expecting over 120 runners this time,” explained Reddy. “We are delighted that last year’s winners, Shane DeGannes and Ruth Ann David are both returning so we are expecting a great race. The sponsors have agreed to put up a $250 prize if the women’s record of 1 hour 32 minutes is broken, which is a new incentive to go along with the $500 prize for breaking the overall course record.”
Dean Greenaway, President of the BVI Athletics Association, commented that the event is an important part of the overall Calendar. “The BVI Half Marathon culminates a very successful year of Road Running. In the past it has exposed our runners to Regional competition and the continued support of Ogier and Deliotte has allowed us to put on a successful event.”
The 8th BVI Half Marathon is scheduled for November 30, 2013.
